AEL condemns the shameful position of Arafat on the Jewish character of
Israel, and considers it a concession to racism

The Arab European League just like the broad Arab and Muslim public in Europe
and the world is scandalized by the acceptation of Yasser Arafat of
the "Jewish character" of the State of Israel.
By doing so Arafat not only alienates himself from the masses of the Arab and
Palestinian people, he also accepts institutionalized racism and apartheid. A
state that claims to have an ethnic character in which one ethnic component is
supposed to have the rank of first class citizens and the rest at best second
class citizens is a racist state and should be fought till dropping its
racism. AEL stands for a solution of one democratic state in Palestine that
grants equal rights to all its citizens. The racist colonial state Israel is
unable of being that state as it is based upon the racist ideology of Zionism.
Therefore the struggle of all democratic forces in Palestine today (Arab or
Jew) should be oriented towards the dismantling of that State and its
replacement with the one democratic state Palestine.
We call upon the activists and militants of Fatah and of Al Aqsa Brigades of
whom we know that they are loyal to the Arab National Ideology to condemn this
shameful position and distance themselves of the series of concessions that
started in 1982, continued with Oslo and culminated in the disgraceful Geneva
plan.
The AEL emphasizes that the right of return for Palestinians that were
ethnically cleansed out of their homes in 1948 and after is nonnegotiable and
individual of nature. Every Palestinian has the right to go back to his
original home, to receive compensation and live enjoying his or her full
rights in a state that doesn't discriminate.
The AEL is convinced that the concession way in the face of the terror of
Sharon will only lead to misery and more loss of Palestinian lives and rights,
the only way against fascism is resistance, popular resistance.
