LONDEN - Het Arabische commerciële televisiestation al-Jazeera heeft plannen om voor eind volgend jaar een Engelstalige nieuwszender te beginnen. Het nieuwe station moet tegengewicht bieden aan de volgens al-Jazeera onevenwichtige berichtgeving van westerse zenders als de BBC en CNN .
Volgens de voorlopige plannen komen er redacties in Europa, Noord-Amerika en Azië. Het hoofdkantoor komt in Qatar, waar ook de Arabische zender gevestigd is. Al-Jazeera heeft al een Engelstalige website.
Al-Jazeera kwam in de schijnwerpers te staan na de aanslagen in de Verenigde Staten op 11 september 2001. Voor en tijdens de daarop volgende Amerikaanse invasie in Afghanistan wist de zender miljoenen Arabische kijkers aan zich te binden.
De VS zijn uiterst kritisch over de berichtgeving van al-Jazeera over de strijd in Irak. Vorige maand dwong de door de Amerikanen aangestelde Iraakse interim-regering al-Jazeera zijn redactiekantoor in Bagdad te sluiten.

Ik voer al jarenlang actie op mijn website om de engelstalige petitie te ondertekenen die een engelstalige uitzending van Al Jazeera of een met ondertiteling ondersteunt. Ik voer ook al 2 jaar hun symbool als avatar.
Er zijn plannen voor een engelstalig kanaal of ondertiteling. Een Arabisch komitee steunt deze poging. Onderteken dus http://www.petitiononline.com/AljazNC/ hier de petitie voor een engelse versie van al-Jazeera...!

al-Jazeera biedt zijn publiek een blik op de onzichtbare kant van de maan. Al-Jazeera laat het Midden-Oosten kritisch van twee kanten zien hoewel zowel de regeringen van USA als MO de zender dat trachten te verbieden!
Het is duidelijk dat dit met name vanuit de USA wordt tegengewerkt omdat daarmee het westerse monopolie op nieuwsvoorziening over het MO doorbroken wordt.
Uitzendingen over Al Jazeera als van de VPRO hebben laten zien hoe de redactie ervan eerlijk naar objectiviteit streeft.
Ik ben het dus totaal niet eens met Marks stellingen dat die objectiviteit ontbreekt en de zender in feite min of meer te vergelijken is met het door het USA-regime duidelijk gebreidelde CNN.

We, the people that believe in democracy, freedom of speech, justice and prosperity to every living soul are grateful to Aljazeera news channel for its much appreciated efforts; its strong will and courage for its continuous coverage of the inhumane massacres to shed the light on Israeli terrorism against all definition of human rights that are recognized by international laws.
While we can rely on the Aljazeera news channel and the aljazeera.net internet website to provide us with facts and the truth from ground zero perspective from both sides of the story, we can not neglect the fact that the non-Arabs can only rely on other media organizations that mostly rely on the Zionistic biased points of views.
We want to see the full truth, and not simply half of it. We want to see what other medias will never show because they’re pro-Israeli. The only person that would and should fear the truth to be heard is the one that initiated the propaganda.
No democratic person should fear the truth. For that, we the people, demand of Aljazeera for an English media to communicate the facts to non-Arabic readers and viewers. Many of us don’t fully understand Arabic if at all and/or at least can’t read it well enough to rely on the aljazeera.net website as a source of information. We believe an English media can help us and help the other non-Arabic speaking people that lack the understanding of the Palestinian cause or have no other alternative than to rely on the Zionistic propaganda and their biased news. Other media channels are already relying on Aljazeera for access of information to many of the news that are out of their reach.
Arabs are fully aware of their case and the fight for their cause as they live it on a daily basis. However, it is unfortunate that the rest of the world is constantly bombarded with news that is continuously persuaded by Zionistic propaganda. As a result, the truth is buried from the public. We believe getting the true message out to the rest of the world will better help the Palestinian cause because it is simple in itself when one can visualize the truth at ground zero and simultaneously comprehend it via the English language.
Here are our signatures in the hope to get our demands, but rather our requests and wishes, which we have great hope of establishing this immense link between us and the outside world to see our point of view and to fight the media terrorism before it’s too late. Yes media terrorism. It is also unfortunate that there is a so called “outside world”. However, integrating these worlds can only create a realm of true understanding met by all on one level. The realm in itself can destroy injustice because truth can no longer be concealed.
We believe that media is the strongest weapon because it has indeed bestowed great horror on the Palestinian people due to the access of media that Zionists have continuously exercised to the point of obscuring injustice and killing innocent people.
We show gratitude to you for taking the time and deliberation to observe that we are calling for your application in anticipating action and providing the truth for all eyes to see. This in itself only revitalizes hope and defines justice as it should be; fairness; righteousness; and impartiality.

Amenevernooitniet dat ik zoiets zo ondertekenen. Het zou leuk zijn als er een echt goed independent mid-oosten channel zou komen.. maar dit. Al-Zjaziera is erg goed in stoken, te goed, volgens mij :S.

Vorige maand dwong de door de Amerikanen aangestelde Iraakse interim-regering al-Jazeera zijn redactiekantoor in Bagdad te sluiten.
Dus toch marionetten. Dat zat er wel in. Dat kan natuurlijk nooit lang goed gaan.
Di Amerikanen zijn echt stom. Schijnen te denken dat ze de zaken wel even kunnen regelen, maar jagen met de dag meer mensen tegen zich in het harnas. Ze zijn echt dom.
