Peace Now removes trailer from West Bank outpost as protest

Peace Now said Wednesday it removed a trailer from an unauthorized West Bank outpost, trying to show the government that it too could dismantle the settler enclaves.
Israel has pledged to remove dozens of the outposts under the U.S.-backed road map plan for Middle East peace, but has largely failed to do so.
Dror Etkes of the anti-settlement organization said the group rented a crane and went to an outpost near the West Bank city of Ramallah late Tuesday night. They removed one of the three trailers recently placed on a hilltop not far from another unauthorized outpost, Migron.
The trailer was placed on a truck and quickly driven to the Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv before the settlers realized what was happening, Etkes said.
"We wanted to demonstrate to the Israeli public... that it is possible to dismantle outposts," Etkes said. "If Peace Now can do it, the State of Israel can surely do it."
