Witnesses: Gunmen kidnap chief PA financial officer
Unidentified gunmen kidnapped Brigadier-General Mohammad Al-Batrawi, head of the financial surveillance department of the Palestinian security forces, in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, according to witnesses in the Strip.
Al-Batrawi had replaced Fuad Shubaki, who is currently detained in Jericho.
According to Palestinian sources, a group of gunmen, some of them in a car, and some on foot, blocked the road on which Al-Batrawi was travelling, in central Gaza City, forced him out of his jeep and into a different vehicle, and transferred him to an unknown location in a refugee camp in central Gaza.
According to initial reports, a group calling itself the Jenin Martyrs? Brigades, which claimed responsibility in the past for kidnapping Gaza police chief Ghazi al-Jabali, is responsible for Thursday?s abduction.
Contacts have been made between Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat?s bureau and Palestinian security officials in Gaza, as well as with the abductors themselves.
