The Christian Democrat Lars Rise reportedly received both election advice and money from the American Fellowship Foundation.

Rise received both funding and advice from the Christian US based Fellowship Foundation during his election campaign in 1997, reported the Norwegian paper Dagbladet.

According to the Norwegian parliament’s register over the representative’s economic interests, the International foundation, which is the business name used by the Fellowship Foundation, paid the trip from Tokyo to Sapporo and the stay for Rise in connection with a parliamentary conference last year.

The foundation reportedly paid for several other trips, however, this is denied by Rise.

Torkel Brekke, religion researcher, revealed in his book «Gud i norsk politikk» (God in Norwegian politics) that Rise got political advise from the Fellowship Foundation’s leader and Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik’s good friend Doug Coe.

In the book Rise himself explained the strategy for the election campaign in 1997. Coe advised Rise to recruit voters among Muslims in Oslo east. The issues that Christians and Muslims agree upon are the battle against pornography, alcohol, abortion, and same sex marriages.

The support from the Muslims in Oslo ensured Rise a place at the Norwegian parliament.

Rise, who did not make Oslo Christian Democrat’s nomination list, will therefore not be up for re-election, declined to comment.
