After the islamist ones, from now on represented by two legal political parties, the militants of the Amazigh cause in Morocco officially deposited a request for authorization to launch the Democratic Amazigh Party (PDA), of which the constitutive congress is envisaged on next 15 November.
If it is authorized by the Interior Ministry, the PDA will be the first political formation in Morocco to be claimed under the articles in favour of the Amazigh identity recognition. Supported by a very powerful associative network, the Amazigh speaking population in Morocco is estimated between 50 and 60% of the total population (30 million inhabitants). "There is a new sensitivity today on the amazighe question and it is time to do a political work to avoid its instrumentalisation", declared to Associated Press Omar Louzi, president of the preparatory committee of the constitutive congress of the PDA.

"There cannot be two weights, two measurements in favour of islamist", explains the amazigh militant. "the word ’ amazigh’ does not return to a race but to a civilization".
Original inhabitants of North Africa and Sahel, before the Arab conquest of VIIIe century, Imazighen nourish a sharp identity feeling marked by regular rebellions against the central power (Rif in Morocco, Kabylia in Algeria, Tuareg in Niger). To answer these identity claims, which remain a very sensitive subject in Morocco, king Mohammed VI set up in 2002 a royal institute of the culture amazighe (IRCAM). Directed by the academic Ahmed Boukous, the IRCAM standardized the teaching of the tamazight (language Berber) and its writing system (tifinagh), from now on gradually introduced into the Moroccan schools at the sides of Arabic. IRCAM crashed to pieces in February because of the resignation of seven of the members of the IRCAM, which denounced "the absence of palpable results" of the royal institution and "the lack of advanced" of the officialization of Tamazight like official language of the kingdom. This started again the political debate on the promotion of the Amazigh identity in Morocco.
