Deze losers noemden hun live show, BUM FIGHTS.

Reality TV tramps video condemned

'Drunk bums beating each other silly' say the ads

A video on sale in the United States has been accused of plumbing the depths of bad taste to show homeless people performing dangerous stunts in return for gifts such as food and clothing.

Bum Fights has already sold more than 200,000 copies, netting more than $1m for its California film graduate makers.

Shot with a hand-held camera, the video shows homeless men fighting, sometimes resulting in serious injuries.

In one clip a man is lying on the ground saying his ankle has been broken.

Another man filmed in a dark alley is shown smacking himself in the head after realising his hair is on fire.

Others are filmed pulling their teeth out with pliers.

'True hardships'

One of the "stars" of the video, called Rufus the Stunt Bum, repeatedly rams his head into a wall, rides a shopping trolley down a steep incline and spray-paints the bedding of other homeless men.

The makers claim the violence on screen only depicts the true hardships the homeless face.

But Donald Whitehead, from the US National Coalition for the Homeless, said: "It's clearly exploitative. It's clearly cruel.

"People are being forced to do things under various conditions of substance abuse and mental illness.

"They're being coerced into doing this by people that clearly just are absolutely uncaring, unfeeling individuals."

Bum Fights is the brainchild of Las Vegas-based Ray Laticia and Ty Beeson, both 24, who have marketed the video as a chance to see "drunk bums beating each other silly".

Mr Laticia admitted that participants had broken bones in the fighting.

But he rejected accusations that the filming was exploitative.

He told BBC News Online that the down and outs were actually all "lucid and fully aware" before being filmed.

He said: "Our opponents say that the people we film are incapable of making an informed decision. But that seems to be more insulting to them than anything we do in our videos. :kotsen:

"It is not done to be shocking. It was done to show an aspect of society that people would otherwise not see.

"The bums love us, they are glad to see us. They even have our phone numbers."

The original aim of the video was to sell a few thousand dollars to raise money for an independent feature film.

"We never expected it to be this big," said Mr Laticia.

"But it just means the budget for the film has been increased."

Onschuldige burgers stenigen. Logisch natuurlijk :moe:

311 Boyz

Police say dozens of well-to-do northwest Las Vegas teens are part of a gang called the 311 Boyz that has carried out multiple assaults, some of which have been videotaped (as seen in the image at left). Most of the suspects are students or former students at Centennial High School. Nine have been indicted on 13 felonies each, including attempted murder and battery with use of a deadly weapon.

The police summary of the gang says 311 is a reference to the Ku Klux Klan because K is the 11th letter of the alphabet. The group's unifying symbol is the iron cross, it says.

IN DEPTH: SHATTERED DREAMS: Party Night

A crime puts the 311 Boyz in the national news and launches a community debate

Stephen Tanner Hansen wanted to leave the party as soon as he arrived.

Witnesses said that he should have.

EXTREME MAKE OVER. Before and after :moe:

The brutality that unfolded shortly after -- as alcohol mingled with young male aggression absent any adult supervision -- changed Hansen's life forever and shocked the middle-class sensibilities of northwest suburban dwellers into disbelief. It was a crime that helped launch the 311 Boyz into the national news and started a community debate over whether those involved were actual gang members or just good boys who did a bad thing.

"On July 18th, 2003, at 2200 hours, victims Hansen, (Craig) LeFevre and (Joe) Grill went to a party hosted by Jared Rose in the gated community of Canyon Terrace. ... As the victims arrived at the party, they met friends who said that some of the guys at the party didn't like them."

-- Las Vegas police report, July 18, 2003

Hansen, Craig LeFevre and Joe Grill immediately met with hostility when they joined the outdoor party, which had drawn 60 to 80 teenagers. Many of the teens attending were members of the 311 Boyz, a group police call a gang and defense attorneys maintain is just a group of friends. Hansen and his two friends from Cimarron-Memorial High School hadn't planned on going to the party but decided to drop in when a girl, Jen Hopkins, asked them to take her.

Witnesses identified Hopkins as the ex-girlfriend of Steven Gazlay, who has become a central figure in the unfolding 311 Boyz prosecution. In a statement to police, Hansen said Gazlay and several other boys tried to stare him down, attempting to spark a confrontation.

"They were all just kinda giving us dirty looks and they were saying stuff we could hear," Hansen told police. "They were talking crap, you know, they were kinda egging us on, hoping that we would say something back. But we really didn't say anything. We just ignored them."

Party attendees said Gazlay intentionally looked for Hansen, furious after being told Hansen was with Hopkins. Gazlay didn't know Hansen on sight and relied on others to point him out.

"He came up to me and asked if I know who Tanner is, and I tell him the guy in the white shirt," said Kayla Pennington, a Palo Verde High School senior who was at the party.

Gazlay denies any involvement in what followed, but Ernest Aguilar, who now faces attempted murder charges stemming from his actions that night, told police Gazlay wanted Hansen and his friends beaten. Gazlay, also facing attempted murder charges, didn't want to do it himself, Aguilar said, because he would face criminal prosecution as an adult should he be arrested.

The atmosphere of intimidation began to work on Hansen and his friends, who decided to retreat to LeFevre's white Toyota Tacoma and leave. That's when a crowd began milling around the truck, sitting on the tailgate to prevent the three from driving away. Police say Dominic Harriman, also charged with attempted murder, was one of those on the tailgate.

"Some kid was flirtin' with Steve's girlfriend so we, some of the kids, told him to leave," Brandon Gallion told police. Gallion also is being prosecuted for his actions that night. "(Gazlay) got up in the (truck) window, started talkin' (expletive) to the kid, the kid was talkin' (expletive) to Steve."

"A subject named Matt Costello comes up and starts punching LeFevre in the face with his fists. The crowd is now surrounding LeFevre's vehicle and reacts to Costello's violence by throwing beer bottles and rocks at his truck. LeFevre calls 911 (on his cell phone) but does not know his exact location."

Trapped by the crowd, Hansen, LeFevre and Grill began to panic. LeFevre put his truck into drive and tried to pull away. According to police, a boy named T.J. Carter stood in front of the truck, slapping the hood with his hands in an attempt to keep the truck from moving. LeFevre attempted to drive forward and hit Carter, an action that witnesses said inflamed the crowd. Police reported that Carter did not seek medical attention.

"He slid 10 to 15 feet," Pennington said of Carter. "You didn't know if he was hurt or dead or what, so the human reaction is to go after Tanner and try to make them stop."

As LeFevre looked for the way out of the gated community, several vehicles took off in pursuit. When he was delayed at the exit gate, LeFevre's truck was rammed from behind by a vehicle driven by Aguilar, police said. At the same time, five individuals armed with rocks ran ahead of LeFevre's truck and formed a gauntlet. Police identified and later arrested Chris Farley, Scott Morse, Jeff Hart and brothers Anthony and Brandon Gallion. The three boys in the truck saw the people lining the roadway, but they had to drive through them to escape.

"The victims hear what sounds like an explosion. ... LeFevre sees a large hole in the windshield and the passenger side window is gone. LeFevre feels something wet on his face and turns to look at his passengers. He sees Hansen's left arm is broken and the humerus bone is sticking out through the skin. Hansen's face is smashed and is covered in blood."

"I just heard this huge bang," Grill told police. "Glass went flying everywhere. Something hit my head really hard and then before I could come up, Tanner wrapped his arms around me. I looked up and Tanner was just covered in blood, like his whole face was just like mauled. It was torn apart."

LeFevre knew Hansen needed medical attention and started driving to MountainView Hospital on Tenaya Way near Cheyenne Avenue. He drove fast, and when he realized that he was still being chased by partygoers, LeFevre said he began running red lights. The pursuers finally turned away when LeFevre neared the hospital.

"I went in the wrong way of the emergency room," LeFevre told police. "I didn't want to touch Tanner cause his arm was hurt, so I had Joe take him out and then we just took him inside."

LeFevre said he went back to the truck to look for his cell phone so that he could call Hansen's mother. The phone was coated with blood and glass and it was ringing nonstop.

"Like, kids were calling, they're like crying," LeFevre told police. "I finally got a hold of Tanner's parents and I called my parents."

Hansen's injuries were so severe the emergency room physician had to call in an orthopedic specialist, an ophthalmologist and a plastic surgeon. Hansen was maimed in the rock attack and sustained a permanent loss of peripheral vision in his left eye. The cost of the surgeries required to repair his arm and face have exceeded $70,000.

Nine teens now face multiple felony charges ranging from attempted murder to battery with a deadly weapon: Aguilar, 17; Costello, 17; Farley, 18; the Gallion twins, 16; Gazlay, 18; Harriman, 18; Hart, 17; and Morse, 18. Authorities are now prosecuting at least four other cases that they say involve attacks by individuals linked to the 311 Boyz.

Hansen's injuries were the most severe of all the crimes. But while one witness expressed sympathy, she laid some of the blame at Hansen's feet.

"I think it's wrong what they did," partygoer Lindsey Paterniti said. "They used rocks when they should've only used their fists. I don't feel sorry for Tanner because he brought this on himself. It's a known thing -- you mess with someone's girlfriend, you're going to have problems."

But LeFevre and Grill have a drastically different view. In statements to police, both boys said they think that Hansen was set up, most likely by Hopkins. Numerous attempts to reach Hopkins were unsuccessful.

"I think that she knew that what happened was gonna end up happening, that Tanner was gonna end up getting beaten or jumped," Grill said to police. "I think that she knew that. I think that she was just using Tanner to try and make her boyfriend jealous."

Echt triest.
