Mysterie poema Veluwe is ontrafeld
Het dier dat de afgelopen maanden de Veluwe in zijn greep hield, is geen poema maar een grote, verwilderde kat.
Scherpe foto's
Dat blijkt volgens bioloog Gerrit Jansen uit scherpe foto's die de Arnhemse natuurfotograaf Otto Faulhaber afgelopen maandag van het dier maakte.
Beekbergen
Fotograaf Faulhaber zag het dier in een weiland aan de Hulhorstweg in Beekbergen. De fotograaf maakte vanaf ongeveer 150 meter afstand foto's. Het dier ving een mol of muis als prooi en speelde met een gewone huiskat. Faulhaber viel vooral het verschil in formaat tussen de twee katten op. Het dier is anderhalve keer zo groot als de huiskat.
Europese boskat
Volgens veldbioloog Gerrit Jansen is het een ‘gigantisch grote kat’, waarschijnlijk een kruising tussen een Europese boskat en een verwilderde huiskat. Het beest is 30 tot 40 centimeter hoog en 60 centimeter lang. Het is gegarandeerd een kater. De staart meet nog eens 20 tot 30 centimeter. De Europese boskat komt hoofdzakelijk in Oost-Europa voor, maar duikt een enkele keer wel eens in Nederland op.
Verwilderde kat
In dierentuin Burgers Zoo in Arnhem bevestigt bioloog Marc Damen dat het dier op de foto een verwilderde kat is. Daarvan leven er tientallen op de Veluwe. “Het kan zelfs zo zijn dat het de ‘poema’ helemaal niet is.” Toch gelooft Damen absoluut niet dat er een poema op de Veluwe rondstruint. “Ik heb nog steeds geen enkel bewijs gezien”, aldus de bioloog.

Het is nu dus vrij zeker dat er een wilde boskat op de veluwe rondloopt en voor een poema is nog steeds geen enkel overtuigend bewijs.
En welk mysterie is daar dan eigenlijk mee opgelost?

Lijkt me gaaf om zo'n groot beest te hebben, mits ze op dezelfde manier verzorgd en gehouden kunnen worden als iedere andere kat. Een kattebak van 2 m2 is geen probleem, ik heb toch ruimte zat. :D
Is het toeval dat ie zo groot is, of is dit een bestaand ras?

According to the Ottawa Citizen, the picture actually shows an Edmonds, Washington, man named Cordell Hauglie and his cat Jumper, and the photo was manipulated with PhotoShop to create the effect of a feline of much larger-than-ordinary size. According to Mr. Hauglie:
"My daughter wanted to send an electronic photo of her cat to her friend. I got a little carried away. When we sent it to her friend, we never dreamed anyone would believe the photo was real."
He's had many chuckles over the analysis of the photo. Some viewers assert the cat appears stuffed, while others say it's standing, not being held. Still others suggest the man in the photo doesn't look as though he's holding a 40-kilogram object.
Truth is, he isn't. His son held up the cat for one photo, proving you can suspend a cat in that fashion, and Mr. Hauglie stood in the same light for the next shot.

The fascist gang of "chrissi avghi" (golden dawn) and european nazis are organising a camp in greece, from 16 to 18 of September, in order to state their opposition to the admission of the Turkey in the EU.
Latest reports:
Saturday 17/9 18.00 The fascists gather outside their offices in Solomou str.
Sunday 18/9 11.00 They will go to Melighalas monument
Parallel anti-fascist rallies 17/9 at 17.30 in Athens Centre

They were initially planning to set it up at Melighalas and afterwards at Kaiafas. In both areas, the local society rose in protest, so they turned to a common campsite in Stylida, where they met the last three years. Given the reactions, they are searching for a place once again. Some information reports a campsite in Aghios Konstantinos, Fthiotida (165th km on the Athens-Thessaloniki highway). They insist that wherever their camping will be held, they will go to honour Melighalas right-wing monument, too.
The fascists move furtively, as they tend to. Since the "hide-and-seek" is still on, nothing is for sure. There will be continuous updates for the exact place of the fascist meeting...

Koussouris, carrying a sentence of 4 years in jail, while there is a standby accuse for assassination effort. He was a fugitive for 7 whole years!!! He has been transferred to Amfissa prison, where is enjoying special imprisonment conditions.

Het was een bijeenkomst van zo'n 150 fascisten tegen het verbieden van de bijeenkomst op de Pelepónesos die weekend. Aanwezig zouden fascisten uit heel Europa zijn.
