It's no secret that relations between the French state and North African immigrant families in France have not been good.
In recent weeks pictures of nightly car burnings and rioting across the country have been seen around the world.

In Britain, four years ago there were similar scenes involving youths from the Asian communities in northern towns like Burnley, but since then racial tensions appear to have eased.

Here on the World Today we thought we would compare experiences in Britain and France. This week we are sending a young British Asian to some of the French suburbs hit by rioting, and a young French Arab in the opposite direction to some of the British areas of racial tension.

On Sunday afternoon the two men met in the one of the main railway stations in Paris the Gare du Nord - before going off on their exchange journey.

On Monday Arjmand Ghaffoor, a British Asian, went to the Paris suburb of Clichy sous Bois. But first the Frenchman, Ibrahim el Helw, who is in Burnley in northern England, scene of rioting four years ago.
