Demand for female bodyguards rising

Doha: One of the major fallouts of rising affluence in Qatar is a growing demand for female bodyguards, reports Al Sharq.
It has become more of a necessity than fashion for many Qatari businesswomen to hire female bodyguards, especially during meetings, trips abroad and weddings.
Some businesswomen have begun hiring bodyguards to protect their expensive belongings when they invite people at home for formal meetings.
The female bodyguards are supplied by companies specialising in security services. They are well trained in their job and know how to use guns. In fact, they are supposed to carry arms.
Some women who hire these bodyguards fear that when they go partying or attend weddings their photographs may be taken on the sly with cameras fitted in mobile phone handsets by women who are jealous of them and want to tarnish their reputation.
There are others who like a female bodyguard to accompany them when they go overseas or attend business meetings.
Al Sharq interviewed Sara Al Asuti, manager of a security company that supplies female bodyguards. She said they were doing good business now.
The daily quoted a businesswoman, Anud Khalid as saying that she hired a female bodyguard not for show off but to protect expensive belongings at her house since a lot of people visited her for business meetings and it was hard to keep a watch.
"These bodyguards do a good job," she said. Another businesswoman, Hind Mohamed, said that earlier when she saw some women with bodyguards, she thought that it was a big show off.
"But, now I am convinced that a bodyguard is not for social impact and prestige. There is rather a need," she said.
Another businesswoman, Hanuf said that whenever she visited her farmhouse in Al Shamal with family members and friends, she felt the need for a female bodyguard. "Now I have one."
