Liberia’s new president, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has stamped down her authority less than a month of being in office and sacked the entire finance ministry.
In a statement the first elected-female leader in Africa, who is also dubbed the “Iron Lady”, said those who were fired over their “financial malpractices” and “scandals” will be able to re-apply for their positions.
In a move that has shocked many but also made others realise that she is serious about clamping down on corruption in the west African country, the President said the ministry had embarrassed the nation in front of the international community with their behaviour.
