Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Abou Mazen has affirmed Moroccan Jews can play a "vital role" both inside and outside Israel to reach a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Abou Mazen, currently on a visit to Morocco, told Moroccan TV channel TVM that Palestinians "rely on the importance of links binding Morocco to its Jewish citizens around the world" to achieve rapprochement between the Palestinian and Israeli peoples.

The Palestinian president, who started Wednesday a work visit to Morocco, condemned Israel's rigid stance against Hamas, which democratically emerged victorious in last January's Palestinian elections.

"Israel and all other countries have to accept this reality," he said.

Stressing the necessity of negotiations and the consideration of all options on the basis of the road map, Abbas underscored that Israel's unilateral moves "only fuel the conflict."

The Palestinian president also emphasised the role King Mohammed VI can play in these "difficult circumstances" that the Palestinian people are undergoing.

He said the aim of his visit to Morocco is "to exchange points of view and information concerning the accelerated developments in Palestine, as well as the Arab and international situation."

Ahead of his trip to the Kingdom, Abou Mazen had hailed the Moroccan Sovereign's role in favour of the Palestinian cause, stressing that his strenuous efforts are “in continuity with late king Hassan II's effective role," to settle the problems related to the Arab nation.

King Mohammed VI is the chairman of Al-Quds Committee, an OIC body that strongly supports the Palestinian cause, especially the Holy City.

Abbas added that "this decisive phase of the Palestinian question requires hearing the views of our brothers, particularly king Mohammed VI's".

The Palestinian president was received by the Monarch on Wednesday evening in the Royal Palace of Casablanca.
