Planes tossed into each other in Texas storm

Saturday, April 29, 2006 Posted: 1633 GMT (0033 HKT)

Planes were left almost on top of each other at an airport in Gainesville.(CNN) -- Emergency crews in north Texas on Saturday were dealing with the aftermath of the previous night's weather -- high winds, baseball-sized hail and flash flooding that caused widespread damage to businesses and homes.

Winds destroyed a handful of homes and damaged as many as 30 more, said Cooke County emergency management coordinator Ray Fletcher.

Crews spent what he described as a "pretty intense evening" making sure people weren't trapped in their homes and assessing damage.

Windows were blown out, and trees struck houses and roofs in the Gainesville and Lindsay communities, north of Dallas and bordering Oklahoma.

Businesses, including the airport, were socked as well. (Watch the aftermath of the storm, with planes left on top of each other -- 3:20)

Doors were blown off airport hangars, and about six aircraft were damaged. Two major communities in the 40,000-population Cooke County were struck -- Gainesville and Lindsay. The county is north of Dallas and borders Oklahoma.

Currently, there are no estimates of wind speeds.
