May. 13 - Palestinian and Israeli peace activists clash with Israeli troops near West Bank checkpoint.
Clashes erupted between Israeli security forces and Palestinian and Israeli protesters marching along the separation barrier to protest its construction.
Dozens of protesters marched from a-Ram village located south of the West Bank city of Ramallah towards an Israeli checkpoint.
The protest was the first in series of demonstrations by a coalition of Palestinian and Israeli peace organisations to protest against the controversial separation barrier Israel is constructing in the area to divide it from the West Bank.
Protesters say that the barrier built around the village would cut through residents' houses and would separate one of the neighbourhoods, Dahiyat al-Barid, from the rest of the village.
A-Ram lies northeast of Jerusalem, just outside the city's municipal border.
The route of the designated barrier will surround A-Ram on three sides. West of the village Israel has completed an eight-meters high wall along the main road leading from Jerusalem to Ramallah.
According to the Israeli human rights organisation 'B'Tselem, the wall constructed in the village would hamper access of residents to hospital, medical clinics and schools.
