Anti-Islamist MP's Citizenship to be Revoked

Somali-born MP in the Netherlands, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, known for her provocative anti-Islamist discourses, is having her citizenship revoked after confessing that she had lied in order to become a Dutch citizen.

Hirsi Ali took the decision to resign as a parliamentary MP upon pressure from the administration of her party, the Liberal Party. Dutch Minister of Justice,

Piet Hein Donner, announced that Hirsi Ali was found to have unjustly obtained a refugee status and citizenship by lying.

Immigration Minister Rita Verdonk said the MP, whose “lying” was proven through an investigation, will be expelled from Dutch citizenship within six weeks.

A TV program aired last week in the Netherlands revealed Ayaan Hirsi Ali had lied in order to obtain the status of refugee.

In the program, it was revealed that the MP, whose real name is Ayaan Hirsi Maganhad, told untrue stories about her name, date of birth, “tragic past” and life.

Ali, who came to the Netherlands as a refugee in 1992, was given citizenship five years later.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali was also scriptwriter for the movie “Submission,” directed by Theo van Gogh, the director murdered in 1994 for his anti-Islamic tendencies.

The note found on the corpse of Van Gogh claimed that Ali would be the next victim.

Hirsi Ali will reportedly start working for the American Enterprise Institute, a think-tank in Washington.

Meanwhile, the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) announced major discriminations exist, especially against the Muslim minority, in Denmark, where the cartoon crisis originated.

The ECRI report cites the media and politicians bring the negative face of foreigners to the agenda and contribute to the formation of a negative atmosphere.

In the report, Greek Cypriots are also noted for behaving in a racist way towards Turkish Cypriots.

28. In its second report ECRI reiterated its call for the abolition of the requirement that persons indicate their religion on their identity cards. It is still compulsory to indicate a person’s religion on their identity card and, furthermore, it is not possible to indicate that a person is an atheist.

73. ECRI is concerned to note that the Kurds displaced within the country by the armed conflict now find themselves in a very difficult situation. According to NGO estimates, there are a million or more such people,

The authorities have not, it appears, carried out any research to determine the actual situation of the Roma in Turkey and official information on this subject is lacking. According to the European Roma Rights Center, however, the Roma communities in Turkey experience major difficulties due to social exclusion. They encounter discrimination in employment, housing and access to public places. They live in difficult conditions in camps from which they are often forcibly evicted without being offered alternative accommodation.

84. The Settlement Act No. 2510 of 1934 deals with the right of foreign nationals to settle in Turkey. Article 4 forbids settlement in Turkey to persons who have no ties with Turkish culture, anarchists, spies, Roma (“itinerant gypsies”) and persons deported from Turkey. The law also stipulates that nomads and Roma are to be settled in sites designated by the Ministry of Health and Social Assistance.

89. ECRI notes with concern, however, that minority religious groups still experience problems in practice. To begin with, the above-mentioned laws, some of which were enacted over a year ago, have not really come into force in the opinion of representatives of the religious communities concerned. According to these representatives, they encounter major resistance whenever they call for the laws to be applied, including notably from the Directorate of Religious Foundations which is attached to the Prime Minister’s Office. The Directorate is said to be unduly restrictive in the way it implements the legislative changes, rendering them virtually useless.

90. Other outstanding problems which have not been resolved by the legislative reforms include the decline in the number of priests in the Greek Orthodox Church. The Church is caught in an impasse in that its training college has been closed down by the authorities yet it cannot bring over priests from abroad because the authorities insist that all priests be Turkish nationals. ECRI notes that the Greek Orthodox community is severely depleted and that urgent action is needed if it is to survive. Minority religious groups still do not have a clearly defined legal status and this is obviously holding up implementation of the new legal provisions. ECRI notes with interest that in a letter dated 23 September 2003, several religious communities, the Greek Orthodox Church, the Armenian Church, the Syro-Jacobite Church and the Roman Catholic Church, issued a joint call to the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, informing it of the various problems still facing them, some of which are mentioned above.

Denemarken
Belgie
Duitsland
en Frankrijk

Allemaal slechter dan Nederland. Ben blij dat ik hier woon zeg. :D

Vooral Antwerpen...Brrrrr....,.

Executive summary

Since the publication of ECRI’s second report on Denmark on 3 April 2001, progress has been made in a number of the fields highlighted in that report. In 2003, Denmark adopted an Act on Ethnic Equal Treatment and created a Complaints Committee for Ethnic Equal Treatment, whose mandate is to examine complaints of discrimination in all areas, including employment. Moreover, the racist motive of an ordinary crime is now considered to be an aggravating circumstance during the sentencing phase of a criminal trial.

However, a number of recommendations made in ECRI’s second report have not been implemented, or have only been partially implemented. The Nationality Act, the Integration Act and the Aliens’ Act have been further modified in a manner which disproportionately restricts the ability of members of minority groups to acquire Danish citizenship, to benefit from spousal and family reunification and to have access to social protection on par with the rest of society. The general climate has continued to deteriorate in Denmark, with some politicians and parts of the media constantly projecting a negative image of minority groups in general and Muslims in particular. In this regard, the relevant law on incitement to racial hatred is seldom applied to those who make statements against these groups, thus creating a sense of impunity that contributes to a further worsening of the public climate. There is still no clear and coherent policy for ensuring that minority groups have equal access to employment, housing and education. The Danish Government has also reduced or withdrawn funding from many NGOs, thus making it more difficult for minority groups to have issues of particular concern to them being addressed and brought to the public forum.
In this report, ECRI recommends that the Danish authorities take further action in a number of areas. It recommends that Denmark ratify Protocol No. 12 to the European Convention on Human Rights. It also recommends that any amendments made to the Danish legislation, such as the ones that have been included in the Nationality Act, the Aliens’ Act and the Integration Act not, in effect, result in discriminatory measures against minority groups. ECRI recommends that Denmark implement the Act on Ethnic Equal Treatment more actively. ECRI also recommends that more powers be given to the Complaints Committee for Ethnic Equal Treatment in order to enable it to effectively examine complaints of racial discrimination and to offer adequate solutions to the victims. ECRI calls on the Danish Government to allocate sufficient funds to this body as well as to other organisations dealing with racism and racial discrimination. ECRI is of the strong opinion that the media and politicians should play a more responsible role in the manner in which they portray minority groups in general and Muslims in particular. It thus calls on the Danish Government to carefully review the law on incitement to racial hatred. ECRI finally recommends that Denmark adopt and implement a clear and long-term policy for integrating minority groups into the employment, educational and housing sectors.
