Wetenschappers denken dat ze een van de grootste mysteries van de aarde opgelost hebben: Een komeet heeft de huidige continenten gecreëerd en 95 procent van alle dieren vernietigd honderden miljoenen jaren geleden. Een onderzoeksteam bestaande uit Amerikanen, Koreanen en Russen heeft in Antarctica een grote krater van een komeetinslag gevonden. Het zat twee kilometer diep verstopt onder een dik pak ijs.
Een komeet van 50 kilometer breed heeft een krater geslagen die 500 kilometer breed is op het Wilkes Land in Antarctica, de regio van Antarctica die direct onder Australië ligt. Deze gigantische explosie heeft het continent Gondwanaland, een groot voormalig continent, opgebroken en ervoor gezorgd dat Australië op de huidige positie ligt. Ook India, Zuid-Amerika en Afrika danken hun vorm aan deze komeetinslag.
"De inslag in Wilkes Land is veel groter dan de inslag die de dinosauriërs heeft laten uitsterven. Het heeft waarschijnlijk catastrofale gevolgen gehad", aldus Ralph von Frese, hoogleraar aardwetenschappen aan de Ohio State University.
De komeetinslag wordt gezien als 'missing link', die veel mysteries van die periode oplost. "In die periode was 95 procent van al het leven op aarde vernietigd. Dit was waarschijnlijk de 'missing link' waar we op gewacht hebben", zo zegt professor Michael Archer van de University of New South Wales.
Weer meer bewijs dat de Islam gelijk heeft, immers in Mekka loopt met rondjes rond een stukje komeet.
Je ziet tegenwoordig lang niet meer zoveel moe-smilies, valt mij op.
waarschijnlijk waren die mensen die moe smileys plaatsten erg moe en zijn ze uiteindelijk overleden.

In de afgelopen Miljoenen jaren werd de aarde vaker getroffen door meteoren , vergeet niet ik praat nu over miljoenen jaren ,de kans dat we weer eens getrofeen worden door een grote meteoor blijft bestaan .
Ook bestaat nog steeds de theori dat de aarde is ontstaan na en passage van een enorm hemellichaam(meteoor ? langs (onze ) zon de meegesleepte materi vormde het huidige planeten stelsel .
Neemt niet weg dat je uiteindelijk dat ook een schepping kunt noemen waarin een bovennatuurlijk wezen = GOD de hand in had.

De NASA heeft die komeet zelf onder het ijs gestopt, Dan Brown wist dat ook al.
