Chavez: Venezuela Remains on Iran's Side under any Circumstances

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said here on Saturday that his country would always remain in support of Iran under any circumstances.

Speaking to reporters following an official welcome ceremony extended to him by his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Venezuelan President expressed deep pleasure with his visit to Iran and stressed, "We will remain on the side of Iran under any conditions and at any time."

"We can defeat imperialism only when we are united, and we will be defeated if we are separated. And this is something proved in history," he continued.

He said that during the visit to Iran the two sides will study and launch some projects and expressed deep satisfaction with the pace of the two countries' joint economic programs and cooperation, adding that the two states have managed to work on a specific working agenda with due harmony during recent years.

Chavez said that a major part of the plans to be studied during his current visit pertained to oil, gas and petrochemical issues and noting the two sides' desirable progress in recent years, he expressed hope that a giant leap would be taken by the two countries in the said areas.

Stressing that certain portions of the two countries' contracts and cooperation have been implemented properly, he viewed presence of the different Iranian sectors in areas of investment, science and technology in Venezuela as very rewarding and yielding.

The Venezuelan President reiterated that Iranians' spirit of nationalism is the reason for the two nations' growingly cordial bonds, and expressed his country's full preparedness to enhance cooperation in all spheres.

He further pointed to the building of industrial mold production plant, tractor-manufacturing factory and petrochemical complexes among Iran's performances in his country.

Venezuelan President arrived in Tehran Saturday afternoon at the head of a high-ranking political and economic delegation.

Upon his arrival at Mehrabad International Airport, President Chavez and his entourage including Venezuelan Oil Minister Rafael Ramirez were welcomed by the Minister of Industries and Mines Ali-Reza Tahmasbi.

During his three-day visit, Chavez will confer with high-ranking Iranian officials on bilateral, regional and international issues.

This is the fifth visit by President Chavez to Iran during his Presidential term.

Later on Saturday, Chavez was extended an official welcome by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the Presidential Office.
