The Islamic Action Front (IAF), Jordan's largest political party, on Saturday commended the decision by President Hugo Chavez to recall Venezuela's ambassador from Israel in protest over the Jewish state's continued attacks on Lebanon and Gaza.

The chairman of the IAF consultative council Hamzeh Mansour also rebuked the governments of Jordan and Egypt for their failure to withdraw their envoys from Israel.

Chavez, citing the continuing Israeli military operations against Lebanon, decided earlier this week to withdraw Venezuela's envoy from Israel.

He also lashed out at US President George W Bush for putting pressure on the UN Security Council to stall on taking measures to end 'Israeli atrocities against the Lebanese and Palestinian peoples.'

'It is shameful to find Venezuela withdraws its ambassador from Israel but the Israeli flags continue to be hoisted in Amman and Cairo,' the IAF leader said.

Egypt and Jordan are the only two Arab countries which have so far concluded official peace treaties with the Jewish state.

The call for severing diplomatic ties with Israel has been a permanent slogan during demonstrations which swept the two countries over the past three weeks since the eruption of hostilities between Israel and Lebanon's Hezbollah guerrillas.

Jordan and Egypt joined Saudi Arabia at the start of the crisis in dubbing Hezbollah's capture of two Israeli soldiers on July 12 in a cross-border raid as a 'miscalculated adventure'.
