Ahmadinejad calls "300" psychological warfare

President Mahmud Ahmadinejad has made an indirect reference to the controversial Hollywood film 300, saying that the film represents "psychological war" waged by western powers to hinder Iran's progress.
"Today they are trying to tamper with history by making a film that portrays a savage image of Iran," Ahmadinejad said Wednesday in a televised address to mark the start of the Iranian New Year.
Ahmadinejad did not identify the film by name but his comments appear directed at the Hollywood movie, which depicts a battle in 480 B.C. between the Greeks and the ancient Persians.
Iranian officials have criticized the way ancient Iranians are portrayed in the film and say the movie seeks to vilify Iran.
The sentiment has been echoed by the media and the public through web blogs, online petitions, and calls to boycott the film.
"Through psychological war, propaganda and misuse of the organizations they have themselves created, and for which they have written the rules, and over which they have a monopoly, they are trying to prevent our nation's development," Ahmadinejad continued in his televised remarks.
He added, however, that the "campaign against Iran will not succeed."
