Rabat, Oct. 1 - Moroccans living abroad have transferred to the North African country the equivalent of USD 4.7Bn in the first eight months of 2007, which represents a 15.5% increase compared with the same period of last year.
The figures released by the exchange office show that the remittances also soared 42.6% compared to the average registered in the same period between 2002 and 2006, during which the expatriates had only transferred some USD 3.3Bn.
The figures also note an 11.1% increase in terms of tourist receipts, which reached USD 5.2Bn by the end of August against USD 4.68 in the same period of 2006.
As to investment and foreign private loans, the exchange office says they stood at USD 2.75Bn, thus registering an increase of 7.4% compared to the first eight months of last year.
The biggest jump was documented by the call centers operating in Morocco, whose receipts soared 35.7% to attain USD 207Mn up from USD 151Mn in the same period of 2006.
