Iran urges Washington to end support for terrorism

Tehran, Oct 28, IRNA
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki here on Sunday expressed hope that Washington would stop supporting terrorism.

Mottaki made the remarks at a joint press conference with his visiting Turkish counterpart Ali Babacan.

Terrorist activities in northern Iraq have increased following the presence of foreign forces in that country, he said reiterating, "Such activities are carried out through foreign support."
The Iranian foreign minister denounced secret agreements reached between the US and terrorist groups, stressing that such relations have prevented Washington from adopting policies against those groups.

Referring to last night telephone conversation between the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Turkish and Iraqi counterparts, he said, "The sides reviewed regional developments and expressed their concern about terrorist operations."
Condemning terrorist activities, Mottaki underscored the need for serious international measures to prevent such activities.

"The regional states as well as the international community can overcome small groups whose logic is based on weapons and terror," he said.

On the first round of talks with his Turkish counterpart, Mottaki said the talks focused on bilateral economic and political cooperation as well as the regional developments. He added that Iraq developments and terrorist activities were also discussed by the two sides.

Mottaki further announced his satisfaction with the current level of Tehran-Ankara relations.

Iran and Turkey share identical views regarding Iraq's stability and territorial integrity as well as support for the government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, he said.

Condemning the recent activities of the terrorist PKK group in Turkey, he expressed his sympathy with the Turkish government and nation, particularly the victims' relatives.

Mottaki called for cessation of such operations through bilateral and regional consultations.
