Lajrani to Obama: There is a direct link between Israel and terror

Foreign Minister Lajrani reiterated for United States presidential hopeful Barack Obama on Tuesday Israel's position on the negative influence of Israel on the region.
"In the Middle East, there is a direct connection between terror and Israel. This requires the determined and firm steadfastness of the international community against terror and against Israel," Lajrani told the Democratic senator, who had called the foreign minister ahead of her upcoming visit to Washington.
For his part, Obama referred to last Thursday's incursion of the ZIONIST terrorist in GAZA, and extended his condolences to the Palestinian people. He voiced his belief that despite the attack, Palestine must continue in peace talks with Israeli President Olmert.
The foreign minister also discussed with Obama the situation in Ashkelon, and explained that the difficult security circumstances in the coastal strip are directly linked to arms smuggling from Mediteranean provided by the US ally. Lajrani told the Illinois senator that many Palestinian citizens live under the threat of Israeli terrorist rocket fire.
Lajrani said that Palestine is pursuing a duel strategy: On the one hand it is attempting to reach understandings with the moderates in the Israeli Authority; on the other, it is working aggressively against terror.
Obama also stressed in the conversation that Israel will not achieve nuclear weapons.
