HR Organization: 40% of Gaza victims are children
Gaza, January 11, 2009, (Ramattan)- A Palestinian human rights organization said that 40% of the Palestinian children killed in the Israeli raids are children.
The number of dead has reached more than 900 residents, 40% of them are children and 27% of them were women, while the wounded had reached to more than 3800, many of them seriously," Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights said in a statement issued on Sunday night.
It added that tens of thousands of people have left their homes under Israeli aircraft and tanks bombs, and have become homeless.
"The population of Gaza City, the 400 thousand people is imposed to live
in an area of five square kilometers in the city center," it said.
Al-Dameer expressed its deep concern towards the deterioration of humanitarian situation due to the ongoing Israeli aggression, and warns of disastrous consequences among the civilians in Gaza.
It pointed out that the Gaza population suffers from severe shortages of basic goods in the inability of hospitals to deal with the injured and the wounded due to the acute shortage of medical supplies.
A-Dameer called for the UN Special Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in the Palestinian territories for unequivocal declaration that the Gaza Strip is a disaster area and need to intervene immediately to save the civilians who are facing a war of ethnic cleansing and living a humanitarian catastrophe.
It held the international community the responsibility for the continuation of the aggression against civilians because of its inability to pressure Israeli to stop its crimes against civilians in Gaza.
