<img style="padding: 0pt 4px 4px 0pt; float: left;" src="http://www.maroc.nl/forums/vbnews/photos/phpVpvjAz.jpg" alt="" border="0">Moroccan maritime police seized about 2.7 tons of cannabis resin bound for Europe off the north African country's Mediterranean coast, local authorities announced Saturday.<br><br>Two powerboats carrying the drugs were intercepted on Friday by coast guards of the royal police in the region of Nador, authorities said.<br><br>However, four suspects who were in charge of transporting the illegal drugs managed to escape. "They have been identified and we are searching for them," officials said.<br><br>The estimated value of the confiscated cannabis resin is more than 30-million dirhams (about R2.2-million).<br><br>The last major anti-drug operation in Nador took place in May when police seized a record 7.4 tons of cannabis resin also intended for the European market.<br><br>Since 2007 Moroccan authorities have mounted a fight against drug trafficking in the country's northeast where the cultivation of kif or hashish plants has been reduced from 130 000 to about 56 000 hectares (138 000 acres).<br><br>Bron: <a href="http://www.iol.co.za/index.php?set_id=1&click_id=68&art_id=nw20100814203922290C199228">iol.co.za</a>
