The self-inflicted blows, while increasingly powerful, are not a recent innovation. They trace back to the 1970s, when the national political economy underwent major transformations, ending what is commonly called “the Golden Age” of (state) capitalism.
The "blows" that Chomsky mentions were not "self-inflicted". Such a remark is designed to shift the blame to ALL Americans rather than to the influences. The major cause of the transformation was the retaliatory OPEC Oil Boycott. This retaliatory action caused tremendous disruption and dislocation via the inflation caused by the shortage in supply. What the pseudo-Left conceals is that the oil boycott was in retaliation against the United States rescue of Israel from certain defeat during its 1973 incursion against the Arab states.
The inflation caused by the retaliatory boycott was dealt with via the abandonment of Keynesian economics. In other words the burden of squeezing the inflation out of the economy was to be placed primarily on industrial WORKERS and their unions. In other words, the power of Zionism and its influence over U.S. foreign policy ushered in the era of neoliberalism.
The net effect of neoliberalism was not only the attack and reduction of industrial workers but the inflation of power and wealth to sectors that are disproportionately influenced and dominated by Zionism: banking, law, politics, insurance, real estate, media, entertainment, publishing and academia.
Left-wing Zionists academics like Chomsky uses the OPEC oil shocks to shift the attention onto "oil" companies and "corporations" forgetting that many of the Zionist "foundations" that supported the pseudo-Left and the Democratic Party obtain their money from the "corporate" sector.
Merritt above is correct about Chomsky. He is a major-league hypocrite. But Chomsky has only one primary goal -- the advancement of Zionism and Jewish power while pretending to be a left-wing "radical". If there ever has been anyone making fools out of the American People it is Noam Chomsky.

het is ook goed om te weten wat de echte achtergronden waren achter de switch van keynesianisme naar neo-liberalisme ...
economie is ook niet alles , economie staat niet op zichzelf : de mens staat achter de economie , niet andersom
