Press TV has conducted a phone interview on the issue with a Professor at California State University in Irvine, Paul Sheldon Foote.

Press TV: Paul, what are New Yorkers most angry about and why is that?
Paul Sheldon Foote: Well you mentioned, there has been an outrageous increase in the percentage of American wealth held by a very tiny fraction of the American population. There has been a massive loss of middle class jobs that have gone with the factories to China and other places. There is a lot of general [issues] across all political spectrum, dissatisfaction and now the issue is where to direct your attention to fix the mess, and this is one attempt which interestingly gets little attention in the major American media, the message coming out of this for Americans is that they need to find some media overseas.
Press TV: You just talked about lack of coverage on the part of the American media, that's what has been around for quite some time and people know it, that's why maybe they tend to, actually use the internet more these days. Now apart from that, this has made people come to the streets and protest, with those arrests being made, what do you think this will end up in?
Paul Sheldon Foote: I would hope that means more and more groups will become involved and turn their attention to Washington DC, It's very interesting that these people are not also protesting about Obama, but we see more campaign contributions from Wall Street than John McCain ever did, I'm still waiting for them to campaign against Solyndra, where the American taxpayers have lost over five hundred million dollars, under crony capitalism that Obama's been doing, I've been waiting for them to criticize [American business magnate, investor, and philanthropist] Warren Buffet who is being cited by Obama as an example of a rich person, at the same time he is donating his biggest state wealth to Bill Gates' foundation to avoid paying taxes. So if these folks want to impress me they've got to be a little more intelligent than they have been so far.

Meanwhile, Occupy Wall Street protesters won the support of New York labor groups with more unions, including those of pilots, teachers and transport workers joining the protest movement.
New York City labor unions and community groups vowed to join a massive rally scheduled for Wednesday (October 5) after voting unanimously to endorse the Occupy Wall Street movement.
More than 80 people have been arrested so far.
“Occupy Wall Street" is the brainchild of activist magazine Adbuster. The magazine encouraged people to set up camp on Wall Street to “restore democracy.”
Anti-corporatism activists have been camping out in Manhattan's financial district since September 17, trying to make their voices heard as they condemn the corporate influence on US politics and Wall Street's generous bailouts for banks across the country.

Organizers said people would march from Pershing Square to City Hall in Downtown Los Angeles on Saturday morning.
On Friday, about 2,000 anti-corporate demonstrators marched from a protest camp near Wall Street to the headquarters of the New York Police Department. Activists remained camped out near a small park in lower Manhattan on Saturday, Reuters reported.
Members of the Occupy Wall Street movement, who are protesting issues including the 2008 bank bailouts, foreclosures and high unemployment, have vowed to stay through winter.
Protesters use the slogan "We are the 99 percent” to call attention to the fact that they are not part of the one percent of Americans in possession of the nation's wealth.
Another slogan and the tagline is "The revolution is happening; it's just not in the news."
Organizers have not mentioned the length of the protest in Los Angeles, but asked demonstrators to bring sleeping bags and tents.
New York police have arrested around 100 people so far.
Many protesters became angry after a police commander used pepper spray on four women at last weekend's march and a video of the incident went viral on the Internet.

Basically highlighting the economic plight taking hold of the country, the protesters of the 'Occupy Wall Street' Movement are seeking to introduce the factors behind the plight.
One of the posts on the Occupy Wall Street website reads: “We are unions, students, teachers, veterans, first responders, families, the unemployed and underemployed. We are all races, sexes and creeds. We are the majority. We are the 99 percent. And we will no longer be silent.”
The protesters have targeted the Wall Street because they want “to create a national narrative and have it be known how the states are taking state revenues that are being funneled to banks and corporations and then you layer on top of that the fact that they're not obligated to pay their fair share of taxes, and so that's billions and billions of dollars that could be put toward job creation and creating solutions to the housing crisis,” Rachel Laforest, the executive director of the Right to the City Alliance has told ABC News.
It is very painful to see that the middle-class Americans who have been reduced to abject poverty should now swallow their pride and capitulate to any humiliating position as they have lost their veritable status.
The protests are reaching other states as well. American activists are going to begin “Occupy Los Angeles” in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street protests. Similar protests are taking place in Chicago and other major states. Although some cynics have tried to downplay the protests in New York and reduce them to sheer acts of protests by loafers, the truth is that they have already expressed their intention for these protests: they feel deceived by a system which has allowed Wall Street to wallow in its avarice and cause a financial meltdown and virtually shut down the country's economy. The demands of the protesters are gradually coming to light as they are being more organized. One of the innovative measures adopted by the protesters was the launching of a new Tumblr blog called “We Are the 99 Percent” in reference to the fact that 99 percent of Americans are experiencing economic hardship while only one percent are in possession of an ideal life. The blog features a series of handwritten notes regarding different economic hardships including debt, unemployment, lack of health insurance and few available jobs. It clearly and painfully states:
We are the 99 percent. We are getting kicked out of our homes. We are forced to choose between groceries and rent. We are denied quality medical care. We are suffering from environmental pollution. We are working long hours for little pay and no rights, if we're working at all. We are getting nothing while the other 1 percent is getting everything. We are the 99 percent.
Taken aback by the recent developments in the country, Washington is seeking desperately to dig a way out without further ado as other internal and external crises have begun to shake the very pillars of the American political system. One of the main crises challenging the US government is widespread poverty crippling the entire country. A report released in September by the Census Bureau reveals that another 2.6 million people plunged into poverty in the United States last year, bringing the number of the Americans living below the poverty line to 46.2 million people, that is, the highest number in 52 years. In other words, 15% of the USA- one in six Americans - are considered poor. The number of children living in poverty has increased in 42 states. The report containing these chilling numbers comes as a great shock to the US President Barack Obama, who is currently getting ready to pass a jobs bill, and this can well be, as Ron Haskins, a director of the Center on Children and Families at the Brookings Institution notes, yet 'another cross to bear by the US administration' and 'one more piece of bad news on the economy.”
There is yet another crisis which is dipping the country into more poverty: that is, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The US military costs exceed $3.7 trillion and can reach as high as $4.4 trillion, according to the research project “Costs of War” by Brown University's Watson Institute for International Studies. In a radical move, “Costs of War” brought together over 20 academics to reveal the expense of war in lives and dollars in order to unveil the ugly face of the US lies. The war expenditures have been imposed on the US citizens' taxes which could have been used for the welfare of the people.
Calamity upon calamity is coming to the US government and Washington is taking a head-in-the-sand position in the face of the new protests which started on Wall Street on September 17 and have spread to other states. Strangely enough, the protests have not been accorded due coverage by Western media which conversely monitor the developments in North Africa and the Middle East with eyes wide open.
As the situation stands, a revolution is manifestly bound to happen no matter what the consequences might be. Under the influence of the popular uprisings in the Islamic world better known as 'Arab Spring' inspired by Iran's Islamic revolution back in 1979, the American community has begun to wake up and has decided to carve out their own fate instead of feeling their way in the dark.
Now the US government which is wont to poke its nose wherever there is a popular uprising in order to reap its future benefits has to sit down and observe with perturbation the revolution which is spreading everywhere and drowning the entire political system.

Maar dan zonder overheid....Obama was helemaal niks. Bush was wat beter maar eigenlijk ook niks...En zijn clichebeelden van de rest van de wereld ( m.n. Europa en Arabische wereld ) waren hem heilig. Ik heb hem maar niet meer gevraagd of hij anarchist of sociaal-darwinist was...
Globalisering en mondiale pretenties trekken een zware wissel op individuele wereldbeelden.Vele Amerikanen zijn echt uit het lood geslagen.

NEW YORK - De politie heeft zaterdag op de Brooklyn Bridge in het centrum van New York circa 500 betogers aangehouden om de brug te heropenen voor het verkeer.

AFP De betogers kwamen van het iets westelijker gelegen, New Yorkse financiële centrum, waar ze al twee weken ageren tegen de macht van de grote particuliere ondernemingen in de VS.
Ze noemen zich de beweging Occupy Wall Street. Ze blokkeerden het verkeer urenlang.
De veelal goed opgeleide, werkloze demonstranten hebben het Zuccotti Park, even ten noorden van de door de beurs bekende Wall Street, als uitvalsbasis gekozen. Ze keren zich tegen de macht van banken en bedrijven en de in hun ogen falende volksvertegenwoordiging.
Tahrirplein
Het park is naar een ondernemer, John Zuccotti, genoemd en heette voor juni 2006 Liberty Plaza Park. De betogers zijn geïnspireerd door het protest op het Tahrirplein in Caïro en een aantal heeft aangekondigd de hele winter in het park te blijven. Er zijn inmiddels soortgelijke protesten in Boston, Chicago, San Francisco en Washington.
In Washington kwamen bijvoorbeeld zaterdag activisten bijeen. Onder hun eisen was de arrestatie van de chef van de Federale Reserve (centrale bank), Ben Bernanke. Vrijdag bezetten 3000 betogers in Boston een vestiging van de Bank of America.
Bij de ontruiming arresteerde de politie tientallen demonstranten. Aan de westkust in San Francisco betoonden honderden mensen hun solidariteit met 'Occupy Wall street' voor een filiaal van de Chase Bank.

De redding van banken met belastinggeld is een belangrijke grief van betogers, maar ze maken zich ook druk over onder meer de positie van minderheden, de werkloosheid, de sociale onzekerheid en de Republikeinse meerderheid in het Huis van Afgevaardigden. Velen stellen ''99 procent van de Amerikanen te vertegenwoordigen tegenover de kwalijke macht van 1 procent schatrijken''.

Hundreds of demonstrators were detained late Saturday as the New York police tried to reopen the heavily used Brooklyn Bridge, which was partially shut down by angry protesters. Latest news reports, however, have put the number of those detained by police in New York City metropolitan area at more than 1,000.
"Over 700 summonses and desk appearance tickets have been issued in connection with a demonstration on the Brooklyn Bridge late this afternoon after multiple warnings by police were given to protesters to stay on the pedestrian walkway and that if they took roadway they would be arrested," a police spokesman said late Saturday.
The rallies originally started two weeks ago under the name of “Occupy Wall Street” when activists and demonstrators announced their intention to seize the heart of US financial transactions in protest at dire economic conditions believed to be caused by the excessive greed of America's big corporations.
The movement has now grown dramatically and spread to other major cities across the US.
Great numbers of protesters have gathered in front of the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago, describing themselves as part of the Occupy Chicago movement that is said to have hired its name from Occupy Wall Street protests in New York City.
Similarly, many demonstrators marched through streets in Los Angeles, bearing antiwar signs and expressing frustration with the country's high unemployment.
In addition to what they view as the use of excessive force against and unfair treatment of minorities, including Muslims, the movement is also protesting against home foreclosures and 2008 bank bailouts.
The protests have gained the support of renowned American filmmaker Michael Moore and actress Susan Sarandon as well as some union members.
The United Federation of Teachers (UFT) and the Transport Workers Union (TWU) Local 100, which has some 38000 members, are among those voicing support for and vowing solidarity with it.
Some of the protesters say the idea to occupy the most vital financial centers of the US was inspired by popular uprisings in the past months in Middle Eastern and North African countries, widely referred to as the “Islamic Awakening.”
A protester described the demonstrations as an American version of Egypt's Tahrir Square takeover, referring to the protests in downtown Cairo that led to the Egyptian revolution and later caused the collapse of the long-time dictator Hosni Mubarak.
Some have also criticized the US government for preaching and encouraging civil disobedience abroad while severely restricting it at home.
They also state that they plan to use the revolutionary tactics people employed in countries such as Tunisia and Egypt to restore America's lost democracy.

JPMorgan Chase recently donated an unprecedented $4.6 million to the New York City Police Foundation. The gift was the largest in the history of the foundation and will enable the New York City Police Department to strengthen security in the Big Apple. The money will pay for 1,000 new patrol car laptops, as well as security monitoring software in the NYPD’s main data center.
New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly sent CEO and Chairman Jamie Dimon a note expressing “profound gratitude” for the company’s donation.
“These officers put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe,” Dimon said. “We’re incredibly proud to help them build this program and let them know how much we value their hard work.”
Now readers can point out that this gift is bupkis relative to the budget of the police department, which is close to $4 billion. But looking at it on a mathematical basis likely misses the incentives at work. Dimon is one of the most powerful and connected corporate leaders in Gotham City. If he thinks the police donation was worthwhile, he might encourage other bank and big company CEOs to make large donations.
And what sort of benefits might JPM get? The police might be extra protective of your interests. Today, OccupyWallStreet decided to march across the Brooklyn Bridge (a proud New York tradition) to Chase Manhattan Plaza in Brooklyn. Reports in the media indicate that the police at first seemed to be encouraging the protestors not only to cross the bridge, but were walking in front of the crowd, seemingly escorting them across. Over 700 of the marchers were arrested, and the media has a rather amusing “he said, she said” account, with OccupyWallStreet claiming entrapment and the cops batting their baby blues and trying to look innocent.
We simply don’t know whether the police would have behaved one iota differently in the absence of the JP Morgan donation. But it raises the troubling perspective that they might have.

Widening US protest rallies against the prevalence of top-level corruption, poverty, and social inequality in America, which began two weeks ago in New York, have now spread to more than 1,000 cities across the United States.
The US is grappling with an ongoing economic crisis which is America's worst economic downturn since the Great Depression of the 1930s.
US's unemployment rate stays at 9.1 percent with around 14 million people still jobless.
General Jazayeri argued that the Wall Street bankers and corporations are not the only ones to be blamed for the ongoing crisis in the US, and that certain politicians in Washington from both the Republican and the Democratic parties are also to blame.
The Iranian commander warned that unless the White House meets popular demands, the “Occupy Wall Street” movement, which is still of an economic nature, will turn into a political and social one.

Welke politicus in de VS pikt dit op? Welke politicus - die een kans heeft - durft deze volkomen gerechtvaardige eisen over te nemen en durft die strijd aan te gaan? Is er zo'n politicus? Wat staat hem te wachten?

Het hele politieke systeem in de VS is zo opgezet dat de kliek die zich heeft ingenesteld in Corporate America het voor het zeggen heeft... De arme burgers van de VS hebben niets maar dan ook helemaal niet in de melk te brokkelen... Het enige wat er gebeurt is dat hen een worst voor de neus wordt gehouden om ze te verleiden om te gaan stemmen zodat de schijn van een democratie wordt opgehouden...
Als iedereen gestemd en wel naar huis is gegaan worden de stemmers bedankt voor de 4jarige ceremonie en gaan de zaken van Corporate America en hun kliek weer gewoon op de oude weg verder...
De enige redding voor de VS is een grondige herziening van het systeem door ervoor te zorgen dat de burger echt iets heeft in te brengen en dat de factor geld uit de vergelijking wordt gehaald... Zolang dat niet gebeurt zal de Amerikaanse burger in een neerzuigende spiraal worden gezogen...
