AL-AZHAR PUBLICEERT BAANBREKEND DOCUMENT OVER GODSDIENSTVRIJHEID
BRUSSEL (KerkNet/Asianews/La Vie) – Volgens de jezuïet Samir Khalil Samir , specialist in de dialoog met de islam van de Sint-Jozefuniversiteit in Libanon en het Pauselijk Oosterse Instituut in Rome, heeft de Al-Azharuniversiteit in Caïro een baanbrekend document gepubliceerd over de godsdienstvrijheid. De jezuïet beklemtoont dat de universiteit de belangrijkste sunnitische onderwijsinstelling ter wereld is en daardoor buitengewoon groot gezag bezit in de hele sunnitische wereld. “In dit document komen onderwerpen zoals de godsdienstvrijheid, de vrije meningsuiting, de vrijheid van onderzoek en de artistieke vrijheid aan bod.”
Indien de visies in dit document ook effectief door de Egyptische regering worden toegepast, dan zou dat volgens de specialist verregaande invloed uitoefenen. “De Egyptische regering zou islamitisch blijven, maar zij zou tegelijk borg kunnen staan voor verdraagzaamheid en godsdienstvrijheid. Dat betekent niet enkel een belangrijke stap voor Egypte, maar voor de hele Arabische wereld.” Samir Khalil Samir wijst nog op de rol van sjeik Mahmoud Azab bij het tot stand komen van dit document. De sjeik is tevens verantwoordelijke van Al-Azhar voor de relaties met het Vaticaan. Die relaties zijn tijdelijk opgeschort. De jezuïet hoopt dat deze contacten snel worden genormaliseerd

Hier de 11 punten van het al-Azhar document:
1. Al-Azhar embraces democracy, based on a free and direct ballot, which represents the modern formula of the Islamic precept of “shura” (or consultation”. Democracy as such guarantees pluralism, circulation of power and accountability to the people.
2. Al-Azhar supports a modern, democratic state, based on a constitution, which separates between state authorities; determines the boundaries of governance; guarantees the rights and duties of its citizens on equal footing and gives people’s representatives the power of legislation in accordance with the precepts of true Islam, a religion, which has never, throughout its history, experienced a religious or a theocratic state.
3. Al-Azhar is committed to freedom of thought and expression, to the full respect of human rights and the rights of women and children, to citizenship and to non-discrimination on the basis of religion, gender, race or other, to multi-pluralism and to the full respect of the three heavenly religions.
4. Al-Azhar fully respects the ethics of opinion and counter-opinion and of dialogue; disallows the labeling of others as non-believers or traitors; incriminates the abuse of religion to disunite and pit citizens against each other; considers acts of instigating religious discrimination, sectarianism and/or racism as crimes against the motherland; al-Azhar also supports dialogue and mutual respect between citizens based on equality in terms of rights and duties.
5. Al-Azhar is committed to all international covenants, resolutions and achievements in consistency with the tolerant Arab and Islamic culture, with the long experiences of the Egyptian people throughout the ages and with the examples of peaceful co-existence they introduced to humanity at large.
6. Al-Azhar is committed fully to preserving the dignity of the Egyptian people, to defending their national pride, to protecting and to fully respecting the worship places of the followers of the three heavenly religions and to safeguarding the free and unrestricted exercise of all religious rites. Al-Azhar is also keen on upholding freedom of artistic and literary expression and creativity within the context of our established cultural values.
7. Al-Azhar views the state as responsible for the advancement of education and scientific research and for the induction of Egypt into the age of knowledge.
8. Al-Azhar believes that achieving development and social justice, fighting oppression and corruption, eliminating unemployment and providing health care should top our priority list of for achieving revival.
9. Al-Azhar believes Egypt should rebuild its relations with the Arab, Islamic and African countries (particularly Nile-Basin countries) and with the rest of the world based on equality and independence and on cooperation for the common good of all. Egypt should contribute to Man’s noble efforts towards advancing humanity, protecting the environment, achieving just peace among all nations; all this while supporting the rights of the Palestinian people, maintaining the independence of Egypt’s will and striving to regain its historic leading role.
10. Al-Azhar supports the proposed independence of its institutions, and the election by the board of senior scholars of the Grand Imam.
11. While al-Azhar considers itself the established reference on all Islamic affairs, sciences, legacy and thought, it allows others to express their opinions as long as they possess the necessary credentials, and are committed to the ethics of dialogue and to Islamic consensus.

Hmm. Da's wel een heel makkelijke reaktie.
Ik kan die 11 punten nog ff niet bevatten...
De reaktie die ik heb is dat een redelijk gelikte engelstalige, westers geconnoteerde tekst afgezet tegen een anderstalige, orientaalse religieuze belevingswereld, niet direct duidelijkheid schept.

Eerst maar eens de praktijk afwachten....hoewel ik moet toegeven, de theorie klinkt mooi, maar da's wel vaker het geval met theorieën....

:jammer: De Hoog- en Laagbrauwse Twisten woeden in alle hevigheid.
Ik vindt het prachtig dat Al-azhar dit uitgeeft, ben alleen bang dat de extremisten dit gewoon naast zich neerleggen want alleen zei hebben de waarheid in pacht.
