'US is not and cannot become a democracy'

Paul Craig Roberts, former Assistant Secretary to the U.S. Treasury, says for several reasons the U.S. is not and cannot become a democracy.
“One is that the power of powerful interest groups such as Wall Street, the bankers, the military-security complex and the Israel lobby, are so strong, that they can dominate campaign financing, so they have a major impact on whose elected to the Senate, the House of Representatives, and to the presidency.”
He said another reason is a neo-conservative ideology that believes “the U.S. is an indispensable nation and therefore is not subject to international law or even domestic law and in pursuit of its world hegemony the president is not accountable to the people, he is only accountable to this goal… like a Caesar”.
