Abed al-Salem abed-Rizak, a deserter who served in the chemical weapons department of the Syrian army, said that the substance Syrian President Bashar Assad's army used in Homs against the rebels is poisonous Sarin gas. "The use of this gas in Homs is an attempt to check the international community's heartbeat," he told the London-based newspaper al-Sharq al-Awsat.
Abed-Rizak added that "this is an easy-to-use gas because it does not remain in the air for long; allowing Assad's forces to enter places where the gas was sprayed after less than half an hour. (Roi Kais)
