Death By AIDS For Inmates Who Won't Join Prison Gangs
The prison gangs in South Africa punish errant members or inmates who refuse to join them by "slow puncture" - a death sentence delivered by infecting the victim with HIV via a rape by one or several HIV-positive prisoners.
The person dying of AIDS in prison is counted as dead from natural causes. The man in charge of prison inspections says the number of deaths from natural causes has increased 528% over the last 7 years, while the prison population grew only 38%.
