Ottawa, Nov 22 - A senior Canadian official in Prague allegedly branded US President George W. Bush "a moron" at the NATO meetings in the Czech Republic, reportedly for his attempts to drum up support for an attack on Iraq, a report said Friday.
According to a reporter with Canada's National Post newspaper, who claimed he overheard a private conversation at the meeting, a top aide to Canadian Premier Jean Chretien complained Bush was using the summit to bring NATO allies on board for an invasi on of Iraq.
"What a moron," Post reporter Robert Fife quoted the official as saying in reference to the US President.
Canadian officials said they were investigating to see if the report quoting the remarks was credible.
Chretien, meanwhile, danced around the issue when asked for comment. "He's not a moron at all, he's a friend. My personal relations with the president are extremely good," Chretien said, according to the Canadian press.
The report came after Canada's Defence Minister John McCallum this week urged Bush stay out of Canada's business regarding military spending.
McCallum made the remarks after Bush said some Western countries were not spending enough on their armed forces.

Washington, Nov 22 - Former Vice President Al Gore went on the attack Thursday against President George W. Bush's Iraq and terrorism policies as he pursued his comeback for a possible new presidential bid.
Gore, who has placed himself back in the media spotlight for the first time since narrowly losing the 2000 presidential election to Bush, said the president had devoted too much time to the campaign against Saddam Hussein and not enough to Osama Bin Laden.
The former Democrat vice president has taken aim several times at Bush ahead of an announcement over the next few weeks on whether he will attempt to stand for president again in 2004.
"While Al-Qaeda has been out there threatening US, the president has been traveling all across the United States campaigning against Saddam Hussein," he told USA Today newspaper, adding that "the country has made evidently zero headway in weakening Al-Qaeda."
Gore, at 54, has the advantage of being young enough to get a new nomination and also has the support of members of his party who think he deserves a second chance.
