40,000 die yearly in EU roads

11:16:21 AM
Brussels, Nov 29 - Nearly 40 000 people die every year on the roads in the EU, and some one-third of the accidents are due to alcohol.
Young people under twenty-five years of age are the category most affected, according to a European Commission announcement released in Brussels Thursday.
Every year, as the festive season approaches in Europe, the problem of drink driving is a matter of major concern.
This year, the European Commission is providing a subsidy of euro 1.1 million for road safety campaigns aimed at combating this problem in seven eu countries namely Belgium, Denmark, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain which have set up designated driver campaigns.
"The Commission is happy to support this pan-European road safety campaign which is emulated each year as a result of the decisive results achieved," said Loyola De Palacio, vice-president of the Commission with responsibility for Energy and Transport in a press statement.

Er gaan jaarlijks 40.000 mensen dood door auto ongelukken. Waarvan 1/3 door alcohol. (En de rest waarschijnlijk omdat die 1/3 die hun aanrijd dronken is. :D
