Rome, Dec 7 - Twenty million Iraqi families are surviving on humanitarian handouts and any disruption due to a war could have disastrous effects, an Italian human rights activist said here Friday after a mission to Baghdad.
"Iraq is on the brink of a very serious humanitarian crisis," said Fabio Alberti, head of a group called Bridge to Bagdad.
"Twenty million families are surviving literally thanks to food packages," he said: "Interrupting the aid, even for a short time, could have catastrophic consequences.
