UN Condemns Cannibalism in the Congo
The United Nations has strongly condemned the acts of human rights violations and cannibalism that have occurred in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The cannibalism took place from October to December in Congo's Ituri province.
The UN spoke to more than 350 people who witnessed these acts or were victimized by rebel soldiers. In one instance, soldiers cut a young girl into pieces and ate her. Soldiers have also been preying on pygmies
The UN calls these soldiers "freaks" who need to be tried for their crimes. A Congo government official says that the UN needs to be able to stop cannibals rather than just observe them. However, the UN is wary of military action in the Congo.
