America's Jews are under attack.
Voices from both the right and the left are playing the antisemitism card with glee as they righteously blame the Jews for America's war with Iraq. What's worse, the silence from more moderate voices in America is deafening.
One-time Presidential candidate and CNBC commentator Pat Buchanan, in a just-published article in the American Conservative, blames the conflict with Iraq on the State of Israel and a 'cabal' of neoconservatives, the majority of whom are Jewish and supporters of Israel. Among Buchanan's vitriol: "We charge that a cabal of polemicists and public officials seek to ensnare our country in a series of wars that are not in America's interests. We charge them with colluding with Israel to ignite those wars and destroy the Oslo Accords."
What is truly frightening is the fact that this anti-Israel, anti-Jewish rhetoric is not coming from the lunatic fringe. It is now creeping into the American mainstream -- helped by bigots like Buchanan and Rep. James Moran.
The fact is, it is now in vogue to blame an Iraq war on Israel and American Jews.
Just read what else Pat Buchanan had to say: "We charge them [American neoconservatives; read: Jews] with deliberately damaging U.S. relations with every state in the Arab world that defies Israel or supports the Palestinian peoples' right to a homeland of their own. We charge that they have alienated friends and allies all over the Islamic and Western world through their arrogance, hubris and bellicosity." And in summary of his remarks, Buchanan writes: "They charge us with antisemitism. False. The truth is, those hurling these charges harbor a passionate attachment to a nation not our own that causes them to subordinate the interests of their own country and to act on an assumption that, somehow, what's good for Israel is good for America."
And on another front, Democratic Congressman James Moran is still feeling the heat (even after his apology) for his recent remarks asserting, "If it were not for the strong support of the Jewish community for this war with Iraq, we would not be doing this." Moran went on to perpetuate the old canard of a powerful group of Jews machinating behind the scenes when he said, "The leaders of the Jewish community are influential enough that they could change the direction of where this is going, and I think they should."
Even more shocking, this sentiment reflects a new canard that is alarming and must be stopped: that support of Israel is outweighing the better judgment of American Jewry and forcing U.S. President Bush and his advisors to pursue war. You and I know that these assertions are baseless: Never mind that Jewish support for American military action to disarm Saddam Hussein's Iraq is identical with non-Jewish Americans at 59%.
Of course, this is not the first time Buchanan has singled out Israel and its supporters for censure. No matter what the issue, Buchanan draws a straight line to blame the Jews. But in this case, he has had the audacity to lay the most serious crisis facing the United Nations and the U.S. at the doorstep of the Jewish State and those who support her.
The war in Iraq may be over in a matter of days, or perhaps weeks. But the war against the Jews will continue long after the troops have returned home. We are determined to fight this and all lies about the Jewish people with our most powerful weapon: the TRUTH. But we need your help to put a stop to the Buchanans and Morans of the world.
Please don't delay. It is so imperative that we have your support now to help us continue on with our work sounding the alarm on the dangerous falsehoods that are seeping into the American consciousness.

Als dat niet het aanvuren van voordelen tegenover de joden is, dan weet ik het ook niet meer.
Alsof "de Joden" in de USA 1 mening zijn , voor deze orloog zijn en tegen amerika.
Daar gaat het om. Dat is wel degenlijk antisemitisme.

Dear Friends:
In recent months, many people have been reading the writings of Israel Shamir, who describes himself as a Russian-Israeli journalist. Many have been impressed by these writings, and Shamir has been embraced in many places in the US on his current speaking tour. From early on, some of Shamir's writings struck us as straying beyond criticism of Israel and Zionism, and crossing into the territory of implicit anti-Semitism. We have discussed this with many people privately, but now feel compelled to raise some of these objections publicly. While there are many passages in Shamir's rhetoric that cause serious concern, it is sufficient to cite these three:
1) Yesterday we received an "Easter Message" from Shamir in which he repeats the most odious characterizations of Jews as "Christ killers," the staple of classic European Christian anti-Semitism. In the message, which originates from Shamir's own email address, he writes:
"Jesus taught, love your neighbour as yourself, even if he is a traditional enemy of Jews, a Samaritan. That is why he was hated by the Jewish supremacists of his time. He said: you can not worship God and Mammon, the god of greed, you have to choose. That is why he was hated by supply-side economists and bankers of his day. They sentenced him to death and the Empire obliged and carried out the execution, in order to keep peace with these all-important forces. Our fathers did not dare to speak against their leaders. The spirit of domination scored a victory, but the spirit of brotherhood did not vanish."
Shamir continues: "The Jewish supremacy forces and the greed worshippers united again to crucify Christ. The US, this New Rome, again gives hand and agrees to become the executioner. Now it is our turn to decide."
Palestinians, Shamir argues, are today's Christ, and history has given the Jews a "second chance" i.e. a chance to redeem their earlier crucifixion of Jesus by not crucifying the Palestinians. "If we keep our mouth shut," Shamir writes, "we deserve to be called 'Christ killers.' If we stop it, we shall change history. The scarlet as blood sins of past will become white as snow. [sic]"
We cannot agree that Jews "deserve" to be called "Christ killers," or that this kind of rhetoric has anything whatever to offer of value to the movement for Palestinian liberation and human rights. All this sort of rhetoric does, no matter who it comes from, is paint the Palestinian movement as one which includes, requires, or embraces a discourse which vilifies, or threatens to vilify, Jews as "Christ killers." What could be more counterproductive to building the community of conscience, the powerful moral stance, which is and must be the goal of those of us in the United States who support Palestinian rights, than the introduction of this kind of rhetoric into our conversation? How could we do more to discredit ourselves than by allowing such ideas to proliferate in behalf of a movement that has no need whatever to stoop to vilifying others to justify itself?
2) Shamir recently gave a speech at Tufts University. He is quoted as saying at that speech: "Palestinians are perfect mammals; their life is deeply rooted in the ground...Israeli people represent a virus form of a human being because they can live anywhere." ("Israel at fault for Middle East violence, Jewish journalist says," The Tufts Daily, April 10, 2001) The quote appears to be verified and accurate.
This is, if anything, even worse than the "Christ killers" language drawn from traditional European Christian anti-Semitism. The "Jew-as-parasite" analysis recalls the even more vicious political and racial, rather than folkloric and religious, anti-Semitism which emerged during the 19th century in Europe and culminated in the Nazi genocide of World War II. This description of Jews as 'parasites' or "viruses" cast them as immutably alien to all societies in which they lived, and contrasted the 'international Jew' with the supposedly 'authentic' volkish people, who have deep connections to the land of the nation and who are the creators of social and economic value. The 'inauthentic' Jews were always 'foreigners' and "viruses" because, as Shamir puts it, "they can live anywhere," and are not rooted to the land as the non-Jewish population supposedly is. They are cast as parasites and diseases that feed off of the productivity and creativity of the authentic people, without ever contributing anything themselves.
It is disturbing to see the Palestinian people cast as the 'honest volkish people' of what is, in effect, racist rhetoric about why Jews are a fundamentally different and dangerous type of human being. Palestinians are not "perfect mammals," they are human beings like everyone else. No better, and no worse. Israeli Jews are not "a virus form of a human being," they are a human form of a human being, whose government and state is engaged in a brutal oppression and dispossession of another group of human beings. Our battle is for human rights and human dignity, and against racism, colonialism and oppression. It should be obvious to everyone that this statement by Shamir crosses all lines of decency, and could not be better designed to damage, denigrate and bring into disrepute the movement for Palestinian human rights.
3) On March 30, the Jerusalem Post published an op/ed that reported: "Two weeks ago, Russian-language journalist Israel Shamir told a largely Jewish audience: 'Jews only exist to drip the blood of Palestinian children into their matzas.'" ("The Jewish student - a minnow among sharks," March 30, 2001)
If this is an accurate quote, it is another example of the repetition of the worst kind of anti-Semitism. Shamir has privately denied saying this, but does not appear to have taken any action to correct the record publicly or to be in any way upset about the attribution. Obviously, we have no trouble believing that the Jerusalem Post might have mischaracterized someone's words. However, if the report is not accurate, one has to ask why Shamir has allowed such a gross misquotation to stand unchallenged. If he is indeed working in the interests of Palestinian liberation, surely he has an obligation not to let such a mischaracterization go uncorrected. Moreover, given the "Christ-killers" and "Jews-as-viruses" statements, the Jerusalem Post quote seems increasingly less out of character.
Many people have welcomed the contributions of Israel Shamir in good faith, but we feel they may not be paying close enough attention to what he is saying. Perhaps this is because many of us welcome criticism of Israel from someone who appears to be an "insider," that our hunger for validation from Jewish Israelis sometimes allows us to proceed without the requisite skepticism or overlook excesses we otherwise would not tolerate. Perhaps some are ready to overlook statements that appeal to anti-Semitic sentiments because the person making them identifies himself as a Jew. But the identity of the speaker makes such statements no less odious and harmful. We do not have any need for some of what Israel Shamir is introducing into the discourse on behalf of Palestinian rights, which increasingly includes elements of traditional European anti-Semitic rhetoric. Such sentiments will harm, not help, the cause. We urge all our friends in the movement for Palestinian rights to seriously consider the long-term effects this rhetoric will have on the cause, and act accordingly.

Israel Shamir is inderdaad doorgeslagen, maar dat zal wel komen omdat op de religieuze scholen in Israel de studenten wordt onderwezen dat Palestijnen Amalek zijn en we weten allemaal natuurlijk wel wat er met Amalek moet gebeuren.
zeg tik jij eigenlijk nog wel goed??
Je komt met een hoogst merkwaardige bron om zo de wereld verschwering maar weer een vuurtje te geven , zegt dan dan de man in der daad niet goed bij zijn hoofd is maar gooit er tergelijk weer een hoop stront tegenaan.
Dat komt omdat jij die tunnel visie van anti-semitisme erop nahoudt.
In dat stuk van Pat Buchanan staan elementen die elke amerikaan moet verontrusten maar jij wenst dit weg te serveren als anti-semitisme, dus geef ik een stuk dat je wel kan wegserveren als anti-semitisme. Echt en nep anti-semitisme.
Dat verhaal over amalek is overigens echt waar en verontrust mij zeer, lees maar eens stukken van Rabbi Israel Hess die les geeft aan de Bar Ilan universiteit.
Overigens ook toevallig. Dit verhaal begint te ontstaan en opeens besluit de President van de VS aan te kondigen dat de roadmap zal worden besproken zodra Abu Mazen wordt aangesteld.

Joodse lobby heet dat. Het is toch niet anti-semitisch te constateren dat die bestaat. Hoe moet je anders verklaren dat Israel 66 VN resoluties naast zich kan neerleggen en daarmee wegkomt. Ja zelfs het land is waaraan de USA het meeste hulp verstrekt. En Irak dat slechts enkele resoluties aan zijn laars lapt zou tot de orde geroepen moeten worden? Wanneer gaat de USA oproepen tot sancties tegen Israel ?

Kijk lobby-werk gebeurt, en de joodse lobby is sterk. De arabieren zijn dom dat ze niet al jarengeleden zelf een betere lobby hebben opgezet, maar dat ter zijde. (Je kunt de joodse Israelis niet verwijten dat de Arabieren dom doen.) Er zijn ook veel andere pressiegroepen. Zo werkt de politiek, ook in Nederland.
Echter politici nemen nog steeds hun eigen beslissingen na afweging van hun belangen. Zou het kunnen dat de VS dacht dat Israel beter was voor hun belangen? En nee, dan praat ik niet over de verkiezingskas, maar gewoon politiek. Zou bijv. Egypte of Syrie of Irak ooit zo'n trouwe bondgenoot zijn geweest? Zoveel high tech informatie hebben geleverd, vooral voor de wapenindustrie etc etc. Als supermacht kies je je vrienden in een regio. Dat hebben de VS gedaan en met succes. De groep is alleen maar gegroeid, ondanks de steun aan Israel, vooral sinds de jaren 60. Egypte is overgelopen, Jordanie, Saudi arabie, Golfstaten, Zelfs landen als Syrie en Lybie schurken tegen de VS aan en vragen om een krabbel achter hun oren. Al met al veel winst voor de VS sinds 1972. (Zelfs Bush heeft dat nog niet om zeep weten te brengen ... en dat zegt toch veel!)
Wat een gezwets weer over Joodse lobby . er wonen maar paar miljoen joden in USA, en slechts enkele hebben hoge posten.
Tegen elke jood met een hoge post zijn er honderden niet joden met een hoge post.
En joodse invloed op de wereld? ahhhh de meeste invloed op de wereld heeft de olie.
Kijkmaar waarom afganistan werd platgebombadeerd, waarom toen irak quwait binnen viel omdat quwait olie steelde van irak, in een keer irak plat werd gebombadeerd.
Als er een lobby is die de wereld regeerd is het olie...

Ja en sommige politici zijn christelijke fundamentalisten die geloven dat de komst van de Joden naar het beloofde land de wederkomst van Christus op aarde zal inluiden. De visie van de Joodse Wolfowitz die na 11 september een doctrine ontwikkelde die alle 'terreur-groepen'in het midden-oosten tot target maakt en een democratisch Irak voorstelde die via een soort domino effect het hele midden-oosten zou bekeren dient toch met name de belangen van Israel.
Ik weet niet of je de groep die tegen de VS aanschurken vrienden moet noemen. Immers de medewerking van die landen aan de belangen van de VS is gekoppeld aan bedreigingen en omkoping en absoluut niet aan ideologie. Eigenlijk laat de VS zich door het steunen van deze dictaturen in met het tegenovergestelde waarom het zegt Irak aan te vallen. Nooit heeft het serieus op politieke hervormingen in die landen aangedrongen in ruil voor hulp.

Bush senior had in zijn tijd genoeg te zeggen over de joodse lobby, oftewel AIPAC. Hij schijnt eens iets kritisch gezegd te hebben als 'ik moet me eerst door 40 AIPAC lobbyisten worstelen voordat ik mijn kantoor in kan', een statement waar hij later, na zeer veel kritiek in de pers, zijn excuus voor heeft gemaakt.
Iedereen inclusief de AIPAC zelf weet toch dat het een zeer sterke lobby is? En dat deze lobby de 'belangen van Israel' vertegenwoordigt? Tussen aanhalingstekens, want er zijn zat opinieleiders in Israel zelf die grote bezwaren hebben tegen de lijn van AIPAC, en zeggen: kom hier eerst eens wonen voordat je zoveel met zo'n grote mond en zulke stelligheid macht gaat uitoefenen op onze leefsituatie.
Ik begrijp nog altijd niet waarom je dat niet gewoon mag benoemen. Zodra het woord 'joods' ergens wordt genoemd gaan bij veel mensen automatisch de nekharen omhoog staan, en wordt er niet eens meer gekeken naar wat er precies wordt gezegd. Meteen wordt de A-S kaart getrokken.
Pat Buchanan is behoorlijk gek, maar dat vlakt niet uit dat er een sterke en machtige joodse lobby is die de Amerikaanse politiek beinvloed waar je best kritiek op mag hebben.

Dus de gemiddelde kolonist zal lezen, zolang er geen voortgang in de vrede is mag de settlement activity wel doorgaan.
En dan kun je natuurlijk ook nog discussieren over de vraag of een bepaalde ontwikkeling inderdaad een ontwikkeling in de richting van vrede is. Elk hoopvol signaal kan verschillend worden geinterpreteerd.
Zo kunnen de Palestijnen doen wat ze willen, zolang ze Arafat niet definitief de wacht aanzeggen zal niets wat ze doen, hoe goed bedoeld ook, als vredesinitiatief worden uitgelegd door rechtse hardliners en kolonistentuig.
En dat is ook het achterlijke van de discussie over 'joodse lobby' en 'kritiek op Israel'. Het gaat om kritiek op een verblinde rechtse ideologisch zwaar vertekende politieke lijn, die met zwaar geschut zowel in Israel als in de VS wordt beleden. Niet om kritiek op Israel an sich, of op de joden, of op het westen.
En dat mag in Israel kennelijk wel (vredesbeweging, linkse groepen) maar in de rest van de wereld niet.
Dat heet 'hegemonie', en dat is waar de kritiek naar uitgaat. Het feit dat die ideologisch rechts extreme lijn hegemoniaal is verklaard.
