Yes, We Hate America
Ali Al-Musa/Al-Watan

Over the past week I have been reading articles by a number of American writers who, after Sept. 11, specialized in analyzing both political and cultural motives behind the increasing anti-American campaign in the Arab and Muslim world. Every single article written by those so-called experts overflows with racism. The writers have found an excuse and a justification for manipulating world public opinion which was shocked and stunned by the tragedy of Sept. 11.

This week those same voices were silent. Not only that, they failed miserably after the gang in Washington’s corridors of power were able, in an unprecedented manner, to unite the world as never before in hating America. Hating America is no longer exclusively an Arab or Muslim commodity; it is now an international dish, feeding the streets of almost every world capital. The banners of hatred carried by millions of demonstrators in the streets of Seoul, Moscow, Paris, London and many others far exceed the numbers carried by demonstrators on any Arab streets.

Why do we hate America? Why is America spoiling even the very small love remaining between it and its closest allies, who are no different when it comes to race, color and beliefs? One remark from a recent speech by Robin Cook, the former British foreign secretary who resigned in protest over his country’ policy in Iraq, explains it all. Cook said he could not understand why America would not wait for one week to implement Security Council Resolution 1441 when Resolution 242 on the Middle East has remained on hold for the past 30 years.

Yes indeed, it is for this kind of double standard that we hate America and support every sentence in a political speech aimed at checking the bull and preventing it from wreaking further destruction. America has shown its ugly racist and barbaric face, the likes of which history has never seen.

We hate America for leading the world into a disaster similar to the one it caused by using nuclear weapons during World War II. We hate America because it is treating us like sheep — as if we have no dignity or real reasons for talking about freedom, peace and human rights.

When the 1991 Gulf War ended, the senior George Bush promised us a new world order and called an international peace conference on the Middle East. Since then America has come up with seven initiatives, beginning with the Mitchell and Tenet plans and ending with the road map. During that time, Israel has killed more Palestinians than throughout its murderous history. The Palestinian authority is now trapped in a small room which is effectively the boundaries of the Palestinian state.

Just yesterday, the director of evil, the younger Bush, stood beside his poodle, Tony Blair, and talked about Palestine. It was an attempt to justify his barbaric attacks on Iraq.
