WTC judge fines

A federal judge ordered Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden yesterday to pay $104 million in damages to the relatives of two men who were killed in the 9/11 terror attack.
Manhattan Federal Court Judge Harold Baer ruled that the families of Time Soulas and George Smith had made a case that the Iraqi tyrant had made an alliance with the Islamic terrorist to destroy the World Trade Center.
"I conclude that plaintiffs have shown, albeit barely ... that Iraq provided material support to Bin Laden and Al Qaeda," Baer said.
The judge said his conclusion was based on the opinion of two experts, including former CIA boss James Woolsey, and comments Secretary of State Powell made before the UN linking Saddam's regime to Al Qaeda.
Baer said that although they provided "few actual facts" to prove Iraq provided material support for the attack, their expertise provides a "sufficient basis for a reasonable jury to draw inferences" that could lead to that conclusion.
He ordered the cost of the damages be shared by Bin Laden and Saddam, as well as Al Qaeda, the Taliban and the old Baghdad regime.
Lawyer James Beasley, who represented Smith's and Soulas's families, admitted he may have difficulty collecting for his clients, especially from Bin Laden.
"If the U.S. can't find him, how can I find him," he said.
Beasley wants his client compensated out of the $1.7 billion in Iraqi funds frozen in 1990, but some of that money is being earmarked for the war-torn country's restoration.
He said, "This is the first finding, a judicial finding, that says Iraq was involved in 9/11."
