U.S. poll: Clark 49 percent, Bush 46 percent
Retired Gen. Wesley Clark, a Democratic presidential candidate, garnered 49 percent support in a CNN-USA Today-Gallup poll conducted Sept. 19-21. President Bush got 46 percent of supporters.
The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus three percent, meaning they essentially tied. It was conducted two days after Clark announced he would run for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Clark led all nine other Democratic candidates, but not by much: in matchups with Bush, Sen. John Kerry got 48 percent (Bush 47) and Sen. Joe Leiberman got 47 percent (Bush 48), both also statistical ties.
