Russia considers using nuclear weapons

MOSCOW, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Russia will reportedly consider the restricted use of nuclear weapons when dealing with regional conflicts and international terrorism.

The Kyodo news service said the position was stated in a national military doctrine submitted Thursday to President Vladimir Putin by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov. The document outlines the nation's plans for modernizing its military force.

The move to consider limited use of small nuclear arms is believed meant to counter the U.S. strategy of using its low-yield nuclear weapons in a restricted manner.

Kyodo reported the United States, since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks has been conducting research and development of the so-called mini-nukes aimed at destroying underground facilities of terrorist groups.

The new Russian doctrine says the military will consider restricted use of small nuclear weapons as a strategic deterrence to prevent military pressure or attacks on Russia and its allies.

Het is een beetje dezelfde doctrine als die de VS niet zolang geleden had voorgesteld met de zogenaamde tactische nucleaire wapens...

T'is een beetje reklame voor elke land die zich bedreigd voelt om ook maar aan "tactische" wapens te gaan doen..

Geweldig, de VS zijn een nieuwe wapenrace begonnen. Precies zoals men had voorspeld. Zou er nu een low-yield nucleaire aanval op Tjetsjenie komen ? Hmm... ik denk ze toch nog even zullen wachten tot de VS dergelijke taktieken gaat gebruiken om het verzet in Iraq de kop in te drukken.

Ik heb jouw nog geen zinnige bijdrage zien leveren de afgelopen dagen.

Gezien het feit dat de VS en Europa Iran onder druk zetten om hun nucleaire programma te onderzoeken, dat Pakistan nieuwe korte afstandraketten test waarmee nucleaire ladingen afgeschoten kunnen worden, dat Neocon publicaties het gebruik van low-yield nucleaire acceptabel vinden, getuigd dat jouw opmerking een grote domheid vergt.
