Amerikaanse leger vond de aanval plaats
op basis van inlichtingen, die uitwezen
dat de terrorist zich bevond "op een
geïsoleerde plek op het platteland".

is inmiddels opgeëist door de Taliban.

Wellicht was het contra-informatie. Door terroisten met opzet gelekt om reacties zoals de jouwe op te roepen.
Enfin, het is in ieder geval zonde van de kinderen en hun verwanten. Echter ligt de schuld bij niemand anders dan de regering van de VS, en niet bij de mensen die de actie zelf hebben uitgevoerd.
Het vreemde is dat CNN het zojuist niet eens meldt. Die vinden het bliksembezoek van Rumsfeld belangrijker. De aanslag in Kandahar melden ze weer wél.
Afghan city shaken by bomb blast
A bomb explosion in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar has injured 18 people, two of them critically.
No group has claimed responsibility for the blast, but the city's military commander blamed it on the ousted hardline Islamic Taleban movement.
The blast took place in the commercial centre, near hotels and a bazaar often used by foreigners, but all the injured were Afghan civilians, police say.
On Wednesday, a US soldier was injured in a grenade attack in the same area.
There have been no reports of fatalities following Saturday's explosion, which took place shortly before 1300 local time (0830 GMT), apparently after a bomb was left on a bicycle.
Sensitive moment
The blast comes at a sensitive time, with elections going on for representatives to a loya jirga, or grand council, to debate and ratify a new constitution for Afghanistan, the BBC's Lyse Doucet in Kandahar says.
The Taleban have threatened to step up attacks to disrupt the elections.

But other groups have also been carrying out attacks, she says.
Saturday's explosion blew metal doors off three nearby shops and sent shattered glass flying.
The area was cordoned off after the explosion, but life has now returned to normal there.
Police commander Mohammad Hashim blamed the attack on "the enemies of the government," referring to Taleban militants who are continuing a violent campaign in the south and east of the country.
Kandahar was a stronghold of the Taleban, who were ejected by US-backed Afghan forces two years ago.
Saturday's bombing comes less than a month after a car bomb exploded outside a UN office in the city. There were no injuries in that attack.
Visiting Afghanistan earlier in the week, Donald Rumsfeld, the US defence secretary, said the Taleban will not return to power in the country.
"Those who have been defeated... would like to come back... but they will not have that opportunity," he said after meeting President Hamid Karzai and warlords in the north.
'Six dead' in Afghanistan blasts
Explosions near the US air base at Bagram in Afghanistan have killed at least six people and injured six others, witnesses say.
Early reports say no United States personnel were hurt in the blasts, which appear to have been accidental.
A spokesman for US forces said two loud explosions had been heard coming from nearby Bagram town.
A number of injured, all of them locals, have been taken to the base for treatment, a guard said.
Wedding
Afghan officials have not released details of the incident, but witnesses at the scene said it was an accident caused by someone handling an unexploded device inside his house.
Residents say the number of casualties could rise as a wedding party had been going on next door to the house in which the blast occurred.
American paramedics rushed to the scene to help the injured. The Americans are also now helping investigations.
Last month three people were killed in an explosion caused by a man who was dismantling unexploded shells just outside the base.
Afghanistan, including the area around Bagram, is littered with millions of mines and unexploded shells from more than two decades of almost unbroken war.
Bagram is the main base for 11,500 US soldiers and their allies hunting remnants of the Taleban and al-Qaeda.
Peacekeepers killed in Kabul blast
A car bomb has killed four German peacekeepers and injured dozens of other people in an apparent suicide attack on a bus in the Afghan capital, Kabul.
The force of the explosion threw the vehicle off the road, a few kilometres east of the city centre, near a base used by German and Dutch troops of the International Security Assistance Force (Isaf).
The attack is the deadliest assault on the Isaf force since it arrived in Afghanistan to support the government of Hamid Karzai after the removal of the Taleban.
German Defence Minister Peter Struck said the attack had "a new and horrible dimension" but it would not lead to Germany's withdrawal from the international force it leads jointly with the Netherlands.
'Cowardly'
US military sources said the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber, who drove a taxi filled with explosives towards the bus, then blew it up.
The soldiers were being driven to the airport to fly home to Germany after a six-month tour of duty in Afghanistan.
The other 29 peacekeepers on board the bus were injured, at least seven seriously, as were several Afghan civilians who were near the scene of the blast.

An Isaf spokesman said an investigation had been launched into the cause of the blast in close co-operation with the Afghan authorities.
The BBC's Kylie Morris in Kabul says the road where the explosion occurred is busy and lined with stalls. Some of the casualties are thought to have been seriously wounded.
The area was quickly blocked off and a German military helicopter landed on the road to give medical assistance.
The injured were then taken to military hospitals.
President Hamid Karzai offered his condolences and said the peacekeepers had given their lives for the Afghan people.
German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder condemned the attack as the "cowardly and devious" work of terrorists.
Mr Schroeder received condolences from US President George W Bush and the two men agreed that "the fight against terrorism is not over and both Germany and America have a special responsibility in Afghanistan to help make it a stable democracy and not a base for terrorism," Defence Minister Struck said.
"We have been doing everything possible to protect them but one can never rule out a suicide attacker," Mr Struck said.
"We will carry on with our assignment, making a contribution to stabilising the area," he said.
More attacks
About 5,000 international peacekeepers have been deployed to patrol the streets of Kabul and to provide security for the capital.
Our correspondent says it is too early to say who was responsible for the blast, but local Afghan officials have blamed the attack on remnants of al-Qaeda or Taleban.
Anti-government forces have been issuing pamphlets calling on Afghans to rid their country of the peacekeeping forces, our correspondent adds.
Suspected Taleban fighters have been stepping up attacks in recent weeks, particularly in the south and east of Afghanistan.
About 40 Taleban fighters were killed recently in the south of the country in a battle with Afghan government forces.
Saturday's explosion was the second violent incident involving German peacekeepers in Kabul in recent weeks.
On 29 May, a German soldier was killed and another wounded when their vehicle hit a landmine near Kabul.
And last month more than 60 Spanish peacekeepers were killed when a plane that was flying them home from their mission in Afghanistan crashed.

Goh, jij bent zo lekker objectief en open voor andermans meningen. En ik zie dat je ook al telepaat bent aangezien je voor iedereen daar spreekt.
