21-01-2004, 13:03
An Israeli tank on Wednesday afternoon fired a shell on a Palestinian house in Rafah City, south of Gaza Strip, killing Mona, 31, and injuring Manal, 29, and Jihad, 13, all from the Abu Ismail family, Palestinian security sources reported.
Earlier, Israeli forces shot and wounded a Palestinian child in Rafah, while another one was shot and wounded near an Israeli checkpoint in Gaza Strip. Additionally, Israeli troops demolished three Palestinian houses in occupied East Jerusalem and uprooted hundreds of trees in a village near Salfeet.
Palestinian security and medical sources were quoted as saying by IPC that Israeli forces, invading the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah for the second consecutive day, opened heavy fire early Wednesday at Palestinian homes in the city, wounding 10-year old Bilal Shehadeh.
Officials at Abu Yousif Al Najjar hospital said that Shehadeh was transferred to the hospital immediately after having been critically wounded in his head in Al Barazil neighborhood. He was then transferred to the European hospital due to the severity of his wound.
Earlier, a Palestinian was shot and wounded near an Israeli military checkpoint in the center of the Gaza Strip.
Palestinian security and medical sources said that Mohammed Hodhod, 28, was shot and wounded by the Israeli soldiers, manning Abu Holy military checkpoint, south of Deir El Balah city.
Meanwhile, Israeli authorities demolished three Palestinian houses in the occupied East Jerusalem, under the pretext of building without permits. Eyewitnesses said that Israeli forces surrounded the Tal Al Ghoul neighborhood in East Jerusalem amidst intensive measures and confrontations with the house owners.
The three houses were home to 24 family members. "Jerusalem Center for Economic and Social Rights" condemned the demolition of these houses, and considered it an outrageous violation to the habitat and shelter rights of the Palestinian population in the city.
Elsewhere, Israeli soldiers invaded Tulkarem refugee camp and arrested two Palestinian brothers, Ahmad and Salah Abu Khadra, Palestinian sources reported.
On Tuesday night, Israel deported a Palestinian prisoner from the West Bank to Gaza Strip. The Palestinian security directorate in Gaza said that Anwar Abu Zahou, 29, from the Jenin refugee camp, was expelled to the Gaza Strip on Tuesday night.
