Denmark tightens immigration laws - again
Children born of foreigners in Denmark will no longer automatically be permitted citizenship if a new law presented by Liberal Minister of State Anders Fogh Rasmussen is passed. Also they will loose their citizenship if they commit certain crimes.
The Liberal-Conservative government is dependent on support from the right-wing Danish Peoples Party who has demanded a large number of restrictions to the immigration laws. New Years eve they stated their goal as completely stopping immigration.
The right-wings see restrictions to the immigration as "the only solution to prevent the country from turning into a ghetto, as is the case in France, Germany or England". Immigration has dropped from 14,347 persons in 1993 to 3500 in 2003.
