Fifteen Palestinians were injured, one seriously, in clashes with Israeli soldiers who raided the West Bank city of Ram Allah on Wednesday, sources at Ram Allah hospital told Aljazeera.

Earlier, Israeli occupation forces raided Ram Allah and forced their way into four banks, Aljazeera's corespondent and Palestinian security sources said.

The Arab Bank in downtown Ram Allah and another branch in El-Birah, the International Palestinian Bank and the Cairo-Amman bank were taken over as occupation forces proceeded to cover surveillance cameras with cloth, sources said.

Coming from different directions, more than 40 Israeli military vehicles entered Ram Allah on Wednesday morning, Aljazeera's correspondent said.

The occupation soldiers were headed on an arrest campaign, he added.

Palestinian security sources said an employee of the Cairo-Amman bank was arrested overnight, but it was not immediately clear whether the Israelis were after more bank employees.

Israeli military sources confirmed "there is an operation going on in Ram Allah in several places. It should be over within 24 hours."

Security sources said areas around the banks were closed to traffic and 15 jeeps and several armoured personnel carriers were on the streets.

Several arrested

Israeli occupation forces arrested several Palestinians, one of them a woman, during overnight operations in the West Bank, security sources on both sides said on Wednesday.

The woman, whose identity was not immediately clear, was arrested in the southern town of Hebron.

Five Fatah activists were arrested in Tobas town, southeast of Jenin, Aljazeera's correspondent said.

Among other detainees were three members of the Islamic Jihad group and five activists belonging to al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, Israeli sources said.

Six Palestinians were arrested from Saila al-Harithiya and Anza villages near Jenin while seven others were picked up from different parts of the West Bank, our correspondent added.

Meanwhile, Fatah's Revolutionary Council is due to meet later on Wednesday to discuss organisational issues.
