Over 20 killed in attacks on Pakistan Shi'ites
QUETTA, Pakistan, March 2 (Reuters) - More than 20 people
were killed and over 120 injured in an attack by suspected
Sunni Muslim radicals on a procession taken out by the rival
Shi'ite community in southwestern Pakistan on Tuesday,
officials said.
"So far the information is that more than 20 were killed
and more than 120 injured, some of whom are in serious
condition," said a federal government official who did not want
to be identified.
The attack in the city of Quetta came as Shi'ites took out
a procession to commemorate the martyrdom of Hussein, grandson
of the Prophet Mohammad and one of the most important figures
in Shi'ite history.

The Shi'ite mourning period of Muharram has been marked in the past by violence between Shi'ites and Sunni Muslims and security has been tight throughout Pakistan ahead of Tuesday's anniversary.
A witness in Quetta saw many Shi'ites rioting just outside his house. "They have burned a hotel and now the army is in the area," he said.

Police ordered people into their homes as a huge plume of smoke rose from a main market. "Do not come out, a curfew has been imposed," they warned over loudspeakers. In Mandi Bahauddin, a town more than 375 miles northeast of Quetta, Ejaz Hussain Naqvi, provincial vice president of the outlawed Shi'ite group Tahreek-e-Jafria Pakistan, was attacked and shot dead by a Sunni mob, a Shi'ite official said.

In ieder geval mijn welgemeende condoleances aan de verwanten van de overledenen.
Ik denk dat Al Qaida's top op dit moment hard op weg is naar ontmanteling, ik denk ook dat deze actie is opgezet door hun. Van de Sji'iten krijg ik de indruk dat ze terroristen en Radicaal fundi's net zo min moeten als de VS, ik kan ze geen ongelijk geven. En ik denk ook dat dat de belangrijkste motievatie is achter de recente aanslagen tegen de Sji'iten.

Opvallend dat tijdens een shiities feest de soeniten dan zouden toeslaan.. Lijkt me eigenlijk ook niets te maken te hebben met al-qaida, dit is een terugkerend ritueel lijkt me zo :)
