Seventeen Afghan And Coalition Soldiers Killied In Taliban Ambushes

In Kandahar, the Taliban have killed 10 Afghan soldiers and wounded others in different attacks. A spokesman for Taliban Abdul Hakim Latifi told a foreign newspaper by satellite phone that in the Dara, Taliban attacked the national troops and killed ten of its soldiers. Many soldiers were also wounded in the incident but actual numbers are not yet known. Afghanistan government officials confirmed deaths of 2 soldiers and 3 others but said that 10 of their soldiers were “missing in action”.
Also in Ouruzgan, Taliban attacked a check post and reports claim that as many as ten soldiers may have been killed in this incident also. The Afghan government confirmed the attack that took place on Sunday morning however no official acknowledgement of casualties has yet been received.
According to sources, a small unit of Afghan and Coalition soldiers conducting an operation in the village of Yaqubi were returning to Khost traveling in two vehicles when they were ambushed by a large number of Taliban Mujahideen. The Taliban used hand grenades and AK-47s, killing seven coalition forces in the battle. The remaining five were wounded but were able to escape from the Taliban. (JUS)
