Report: Two Israeli Arabs kidnapped by insurgents in Iraq

By Haaretz Service and News Agencies

An Iranian television station on Thursday reported that two Israeli Arabs were kidnapped by insurgents in Iraq and aired photographs of documents, including Israeli identity cards, that it said belong to them.

The Al-Alam TV station identified the men as Ahmed Yassin Tikati, 33, and Nabil George Yaakub Razuq, 30, Christians from East Jerusalem, and said they were kidnapped by the Ansar a-Din group, Israeli media said Thursday. In the footage, both men said they were international aid workers.

Among the documents shown in Israeli rebroadcasts were two Israeli identity cards, a Maccabi HMO card, an Israeli drivers license, a supermarket chain discount card and a Georgia drivers license.

The Foreign Ministry said it could not confirm the report.

Razuq's uncle, Samir Razuq, said Thursday his newphew worked in Israel for USAID, the United States Agency for International Development, and left for Iraq to work for the agency two or three months ago.

Speaking to Army Radio, Samir Razuq said he first heard about the alleged kidnapping on Israeli television, and said his nephew is an Israeli citizen and holds an Israeli passport, and that he has no other citizenship.

Nabil Razuq lives in the Beit Hanina neighborhood of East Jerusalem and is married to a woman from the Czech Republic, his uncle said.
