FYROM says it staged killings

LAHORE, PAKISTAN - Relatives said Sunday they will seek legal damages after the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) acknowledged that six Pakistani ifiegal immigrants were framed and executed by police in a plot allegedly masterminded by a top official to boost the Balkan country’s profile in the US-led war on terrorism.
The men, aged between 22 and 29, were gunned down in March 2002 outside Skopje, FYROM’s capital. They had been accused of ambushing a police patrol and plotting attacks on foreign embassies in FYROM.
Ansar Burney, a lawyer and head of the Ansar Burney Welfare Trust International, a civil rights group which has campaigned on behalf of the victims’ families, said he was preparing to file a suit in the International Court of Justice in The Hague, seeking $2 million in damages for each family.
FYROM police said seven Pakistanis were killed, but Burney said one of the victims was Indian. He said the police killed them in a fake encounter outside the US Embassy in Skopje and made out that they were terrorists, trained in Pakistani camps and planning to strike American and European interests.
“Theywere just economic migrants passing through Macedonia illegally to reach some European country to earn money for their poor families,” Burney said.
FYROM police have accused the country’s former interior minister, Ljube Boskovski, of ordering the executions and also implicated three top associates, as well as a businessman and two special police commandos.
The police charges are a first step in a legal process likely to lead to an official indictment and a trial. If found guilty, they could face life in prison.
Pakistan’s government praised FYROM for revealing the “diabolical plot” and starting legal action.

By resolution A/RES/47/225 of 8 April 1993, the General Assembly decided to admit as a Member of the United Nations the State being provisionally referred to for all purposes within the United Nations as "The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" pending settlement of the difference that had arisen over its name.

Ja ja, lul je dr maar weer uit. :hihi:Waarom was die difference ook al weer arisen? Als NL zich voortaan Denemarken noemt, zouden de Denen daar dan wakker van liggen?
Maar weet je nou zeker dat ze dat deden om drbij te horen? Ik zou nog wel willen weten waarom ze dat precies deden. Wat heeft die businessman er nou weer mee te maken? Een mensensmokkelaar die van zijn vrachtje af wilde?

Neuh, andersom denk ik van wel. De Westelijke Sahara wordt door sommigen ook liever Zuid Marokko genoemd....

Ik weet niets zeker, maar was heel verbaasd dat dit op pagina 2 van een redelijk degelijke krant stond. Maar ik kan verder ook niets vinden.

Pakistani family seeks justice for murdered son

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Grieving relatives of a 19-year-old Pakistani, murdered in a 2002 ambush staged by security forces in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) to look like a crackdown on Al Qaeda, angrily demanded justice yesterday.
FYROM on Friday charged a former interior minister and six security force officers with murder in connection with the ambush on people it said were innocent migrants set up to look like “mujahideen terrorists.”
“We want justice,” said an emotional Altaf Hussain, elder brother of Ejaz Alimed, who was among the six Pakistanis and one Indian killed.
“I will get in touch with the families of the other victims to see what can be done now,” he told Reuters by telephone from Sivia, a small village 150 kilometers (94 miles) south of Islamabad.
FYROM Interior Ministry spokeswoman Mirjana Kontevska told a news conference on Friday in Skopje that the encounter was a “monstrous fabrication” to gain the attention of the international community.
Pakistan Information Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed told Reuters that Islamabad had issued a strong protest over the incident and would demand compensation for the victims’ families.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Masood Khan described the incident as “hideous,” adding that Islamabad was seeking more details.
‘The crime is even more shocking because these murders were premeditated and were committed to spruce up Macedonia’s image as an ally in the war against terrorism,” Khan said.
The victims, migrants passing through FYROM and looking for work in Europe, were pin-pointed, kidnapped and killed in what security forces said was a coup against global terrorism. Their bodies were filmed with handguns stuck in their waistbands.
Ghulam Fatima, Ahmed’s mother, choked with emotion as she spoke of her son.
“I think of him 24 hours a day,” she moaned. “He was very keen to go abroad and earn some money to help the family.”

Earlier, Boskovski told reporters: "Before I'm taken into custody, I solemnly declare I'm telling you the truth. I have not given any such order to eliminate such a group."
"There was no order to kill civilians," he said. His rightist VMRO-DPMNE party lost a presidential election on Wednesday to Social Democrat Branko Crvenkovski, whose party has held power for 18 months. The ambush occurred in March 2002, six months after the September 11 attacks in the United States, and when Macedonia was recovering from a five-month ethnic conflict which almost ignited all-out civil war with separatist Albanians. The West chose to tread softly with Skopje at the time but diplomats voiced quiet doubts about the ambush and killing.
Boskovski's then ministry said three policemen had killed seven armed fighters in a rural area just north of the capital Skopje. They had been ordered to stop but opened fire, according to the official version of events.
No police were wounded in the ambush, allegedly set on the basis of a radio intercept and suspicion the group was planning attacks on state officials and Western embassies.

Ik me gek zoeken, je uitscheldend voor luilak... SadeeQ had geloof ik die over de Pakistaanse legal action geplaatst.
Het blijft heel stil zolang we niet weten wat de toedracht was. Pakistani's zijn expandable en dat er wordt gekeeld op de Balkan is ook geen nieuws. Helaas, maar zo gaat dat. Wat ze in Oost-Europa over andere volkeren denken is ook gevoeglijk bekend trouwens.

Ahum, wilde je impliceren dat de Macedoniërs van plan waren Grieken wholesale de keel af te snijden? Of Thessaloniki te annexeren? Was het niet andersom, die jarenlange assimilitie- annex uitzettingscampagne van de Grieken tegen allerlei Slavisch volk (Macedoniërs, Vlachen, en natuurlijk ook nog 'Tourkoi', moslimGrieken)? Alsmede het monopoliseren van geografische namen? En het claimen van 'Noord-Epirus' van Albanië? Tot die Noordepirenen daadwerkelijk kwamen afzakken, toen waren het weer smerige Albanezen? Griekenland dat ongestraft de EU-boycot van Servië openlijk ontdook? Mmmm de Balkan, uw jacuzi vol bloed.

Verder wilde ik dat niet impliceren.
Ik wil alleen expliceren dat toen de Republiek Macedonia werd uitgeroepen er een paar mensen aan de macht waren die niet echt lekker te vertrouwen waren. En deze regering nam ook nog voor hun republiek enkele symbolen over die direkt te maken hadden met het grondgebied waar het huidige Griekenland ligt. Zoals de plaats waar het graf van Phillipus gevonden is. En weigerde duidelijk te ontkennen dat men claims op dat gebied had.
Tel daar bij op dat daarnaast de orthodoxe bloedbroeders Bulgarije ook nog wat claims lieten gelden op datzelfde grondgebied.
En last but not least had je de Albanezen die hun post Hoxha-Islamisme hadden ontdekt en in de hele regio de jacuzi vulden met bloed.
Lekker om dat als je buren te hebben.

Spiliotopoulos in the hot seat
Tension rose in the north-eastern Aegean yesterday when Turkish military jets came close to violating Greek air space in the area where a fighter jet carrying Defence Minister Spilios Spiliotopoulos as a co-pilot was carrying out simulated bombing runs.
Two pairs of Greek interceptors sped to the scene, east of the island of Lemnos, and chased away the Turkish fighter jets, while Spiliotopoulos’s F-16 completed its exercise.
The 58-year-old minister is himself a former air force pilot with some 3,500 hours’ experience in fighter jets. His 55-minute spin over the Aegean yesterday, as the co-pilot of one of a pair of F-16s, came during a visit to 110 Fighter Wing at Larissa.
After the Lemnos incident, a total of 18 Turkish fighters entered Greek air space between Lemnos and Chios, while two Turkish F-16s flew within 10 meters of a pair of aging Greek A-7 bombers near Kastellorizo.
All were eventually chased away, with seven simulated dogfights occurring in the process.
