Economisch gezien is de waarde van de verre toekomst is nul zolang de rente positief is en oneindig zodra de rente negatief wordt.

Dat komt door het mechanisme van verdisconteren. Daar worden investeringsbeslissingen op gebaseerd.

Zolang de rente positief is, blijft het lastig om de economie duurzaam te maken. Het vergt namelijk heel veel kapitaal.

Positieve rente signaleert een tekort aan kapitaal. Negatieve rente signaleert een overvloed.

Een negatieve rente kan signaleren dat de consumptie laag is en de investeringsbereidheid enorm en dat men niet wordt afgeschrikt door lage rendementen.

Deze investeringsdrang kan worden gericht op projecten die de economie duurzaam maken.

Population panic

Ook Monbiot heeft het erover, in een opstel vol interessante thema's en argumenten.

Next week the BirthStrike movement – founded by women who, by announcing their decision not to have children, seek to focus our minds on the horror of environmental collapse – will dissolve itself, as its cause has been hijacked so virulently and persistently by population obsessives. The founders explain that they had “underestimated the power of ‘overpopulation’ as a growing form of climate breakdown denial”.

Yet it is widely used as a blanket explanation of environmental breakdown. Panic about population growth enables the people most responsible for the impacts of rising consumption (the affluent) to blame those who are least responsible.

(...) “All these things we talk about wouldn’t be a problem if there was the size of population that there was 500 years ago.” I doubt that any of those who nodded and clapped were thinking, “yes, I urgently need to disappear.”

Dit laatste lijkt op mijn vraag wanneer iemand zegt dat er teveel mensen zijn: 'O.k, wie moeten er dood?'

Ik zag ooit een video van een dame die zei dat de .2 procent economische groei puur komt door "stelen" dwz slim gehaaid onderhandelen van westen in Africa.

Economie moet niet groeien, ja in wijsheid wellicht.

En populatie wordt door vaccins en medicijnen en nu ook corona (de oude garde) gedecimeerd.

Niet leuk. Maar de zon groeit ook niet. Laat zonnepaneelparken groeien en all is ok. Waarom moet de economie groeien? China, het land waar ze trouw bleven aan goud en waarde geld itt Amerika. Is nu grootste wereldmacht. Lesje voor het westen?

Verder ben ik ook maar een amateur maar die minime percentages economische groei zijn eerder verontrustend, in die zin dat de natuur omgekeerd evenredig naar de knoppen gaat door dat milimeterpercentage eerder en vervuiling oliewinning in afrika enz enz enz.

Muziekje om pijn wellicht wat te verlichten van mijn gezever:
