Islam and cultural practices «*are an impossible distinction*» only for people who are unfamiliar/ignorant about Islam. Considering most Westerners are, it is not surprise you can’t make that distinction. And, therefore, mix them up.
People are so ignorant that many of them think that «*honor killings*», «*forced marriages*», «*wearing the burqa*», «* FGM : female genital mutilation*» and many other cultural practices are Islamic. Many medias do. In reality, they are UnIslamic.
A Moroccan Muslim will probably experience a cultural shock if they travel to Pakistan. Like a Catholic American would if they travel to any Catholic African country.
Believers who will disagree ? And ? Islamic practices are the ones that can be found in the Quran and the Sunnah (of the Prophet). Any other beliefs or practices are not Islamic. Even if they are practised in a Muslim-majority country.
What the media call «*Islamic countries*» are in fact «*Muslim-majority countries*» that already had patriarchal cultures and traditions before Islam was introduced. And they kept these pre-Islamic cultures.
Any action carried out by a Muslim is not necessarily Islamic ......
