Reasons for Prohibition of Alcohol in Islam
There are many reasons why alcoholic beverages have been prohibited in Islam. The following are among the reasons which Muslims believe in and are taken from Dr. Ahmad H. Sakr's booklet on the subject:

Alcohol is considered to be an abomination.
Alcohol is part of Satan's handiwork.
Drinking alcohol generates enmity and hatred among people.
Alcohol prevents people from remembering Allah.
It prevents or delays Muslims from performing their daily prayers. Even if they pray they will not understand the meaning and significance of what they are doing and saying.
Those who drink alcohol will be denied Paradise.
Those who drink alcohol are considered by Islam to be similar to those who worship idols which is also totally prohibited in Islam.
When a person drinks alcohol he is not considered to be a believer.

Muslims believe that the prophets of Allah did not taste alcoholic beverages and that alcohol was prohibited in the original scriptures of the divinely revealed religions.

De negatieve invloeden van alcohol zijn groter dan van softdrugs en harddrugs bij elkaar.

Niet alleen gezondheidszorg maar ook huiselijk geweld, verkeersdoden, daklozenprobleem.

Om de link met islam te leggen is wat voorbarig. Zo wordt er in een islamitisch land als Turkije enorm veel gerookt. Geloofsvoorschriften helpen daar niet tegen.

Er is geen enkel land in het Midden-Oosten - of rond de Middellandse zee, waar ooit de Feniciërs - en later de Romeinen - heersten, waar geen wijncultuur ontstond. In veel van die islamitische landen is dat nog steeds zo. Bovendien geldt er in heel veel moslimlanden een uitzondering voor het gebruik van alcohol in toeristenhotels - en daar maken heel wat locals gebruik van als ze de kans krijgen. In Tunesië maken ze nu nog steeds wijn van een heel goede kwaliteit - en hun biermerk is 'Celtia' , en daar lusten Tunesiërs wel pap van, heb ik gezien. Ook van de in licentie gebrouwen Europese bieren trouwens.

De eerste vraag die zo'n 5 jaar geleden de eigenaar van een riad in Fez me stelde was: of ik een fles wijn bij het eten wilde. Zowel de eigenaar van de riad als de wijn was van Marokkaanse afkomst - de man was een heel aangenaam causeur en de wijn was voortreffelijk.

Dichters als Abu Nawas - of Omar Chajjam, bijvoorbeeld, waren in heel de islamitische wereld beroemd, onder andere om hun gedichten over wijn.

Tot op de dag van vandaag wordt die gezondheidsleer,onderwezen op vele faculiteiten.

Maar daar hoor je die racistische frikadellen-poepers niet over,immers,de Islam is slecht in hen ogen en ondertussen profiteren honderden miljoenen westerlingen van de kennis van Islamitische geleerden op de gezondheidszorg.

Islamic culture and its contributions while Europe was in the Dark Ages ? Taught in schools ? Don’t even think about it ;-)

I remember the only thing we were taught about Islam when I was 13/14 was how the Prophet (SAWS) spread Islam spread Islam through conquest and violence. + Five pillars. Nothing about the 8 centuries of Al Andalus, it’s not interesting ;-)
